Hi Shane, thanks for the videos and many ideas. Been watching for a while. I read you had the 76 weighed a while ago (2.7). If adding a winch and having the horse float on, you may be over the GVM. I had mine weighed with the van on the back and it was over the GVM. My 76 has front & rear bars, Runva winch, roof rack, home made drawers (very light). I knew a long range tank was also going in, so looked at a GVM upgrade. I chose Dobinson remote reservoir. The upgrade comes with 2 inch lift. I have had it now for a couple of years. I have it set at middle settings and find it works better off road than original.

Mate. Had a 75series for a lot of years and absolutely loved it for the sorts of camping you do. Only had it lifted by 50 mm because the standard suspension was to hard and did the lift at the same time as the suspension. I had a winch fitted and again hardly needed it but when I did not did it get me out of trouble. Couple of times up near Palmerville and on the Cooper creek would have been in deep 💩 without it. About the awning lights I would get a couple of LED strip lights and glue them to the roof rafters of your 23Zero awning. I have a 23Zero and the lights are bit into the rafted on the latest models. Good video Shayne, keep them coming.

"The Toyota is agricultural." Oh, you sweet summer child ;-) Welcome to the world of old school LR Defenders where every drive is a ride in a tumble dryer and every Toyota is a Rolls Royce! I know, I know, self-inflicted wound but, hey, you either love them or you don't. Absoulutely agree on only doing what is right for you. There is a huge difference between 'off-roading' where you are looking to stress your vehicle to it's limit and touring/overlanding where your vehicle gets you where you want to go and, more importantly, gets you back again. Cheers from over here!

No sound deadening in my 76. I drive with windows down a lot so it'd be pointless. Noise is still very acceptable on rare occasions all windows are up. Passengers can wear ear muffs if they reckon it's too noisy.

Hi Shane, good video roof console to go for. I got one in the FJ that is great for maps and necessary paperwork. Funny how you asked about a winch, I put my winch on the FJ, and to be honest with you. I never used to get myself out of trouble, yet it's always somebody else. As for the brand, I will say that dirty word, Kings. Its been on the FJ for nearly 9 years and never had an issue. It's all about maintenance. Great conversation starter about what you need for your 4WD. Keep up the good work

I soundproofed my Troopy with a CarBuilders kit, and it made a good difference. I did it myself, and it took over a day to fit everything, so it's not a quick hour or two. I think I paid about $1K to get all the components, and it added 20Kg or so to the weight (more than I thought!). CarBuilders have pre-cut kits these days for 70 series, so probably easier to fit out than the kit I got.

Thanks mate. Im thinking for me it will take a good few days stripping out the car, installing and then refitting out the car. So you are happy you did it?

I've been out with my brother and mate a fair bit. They had v8 troopy and single cab 79. Both had 2 and 3 inch lifts. They absolutely sucked offroad when off camber or steep hills. Stock ride height with 33's and twin locked will drive better than these crazy lifted ones. As long as you're not doing mud and need 37's lol. They get thrown around in the cab alot too. They are surprised when they get in my colorado 7 and realise how much more comfortable it is on getting thrown side to side. For touring I'd get remote resi shocks to soak up the bumps and keep it as low as possible mate. Cheers

@@Haveacrack76 I only put it last weekend and it folds up with the awning- it is self sticking to the awning bars, so designed to stay in place. You do have to give a bit of thought to where the wires will run, as there are three arms with plugs hanging off them now, but it tucked in ok for me.

I think the console over the windscreen would be a winner if it doesn't get in your way vision wise or head space wise. I can't see any other reason not to gain that extra and handy storage. I like the simple is best approach to 4wd mods and am trying to utilise it with my current build. I won't scrimp on tires, they must be e rated with 3 ply sidewalls. A 2" lift is always a good investment too using quality brands. Minimal weight is a major goal too for a tourer imo. You have a very nice set up there, use the KISS philosophy. Cheers

Not going to claim to be an expert but if you’re looking at GU patrols it’s well known the td42 is a more reliable motor than the zd30. Cars with the td42 will be more expensive to buy and run. The later model zd30 common rail engines (07 onward) are much more reliable than the earlier direct injection ones. The zd30 in pre facelift GUs (pre 04) have oiling issues and will blow up so stay away from those.
