This knife has been long in the making. I've always wanted a Bowie knife, and finally, the time has come. This knife has all the details of a bowie knife, yet it is not a real thing. The real thing is a story for another day.
Don't get me wrong-this will be a great knife. But in all honesty, it's more of a remake of Croccidial Dundee's Knife than a stand-alone bower knife. That little fact makes me so happy!
I gave 5 categories for KZbin views to vote for. In the end, this knife was voted on. It is 15 inches in length, sharp on both sides of the drop tip, has a clean spine, a deep fuller, and finally, a stacked leather handle. Drawing it up, it kind of looks like a Dundee knife.
In this video, I discuss the foregoing part of this project. I spent nine hours in the forge burning just two bags of charcoal, which is around 30 lbs, and it was worth every second.
I hope you enjoy the process.
The next video will be about filling, carving the fuller, and most likely shaping the hand guard and pommel.
I have so much to do, I best get back to work.

Also for fullering you can make a jig for your sander that’s goes left and right if you have a small enough contact wheel

I love the design you settled on. Though I have to admit... It looks a lot like the Crocodile Dundee bowie. But I've always loved that design, so... fair play, I say! 👍👍

The tang you can do one of two things. You can weld on a screw or bolt and tap a hole into the pommel or you can form the tang into a cylinder and use a diy to add threads to the tang
@JudagDaMighty

Or maybe forge weld a low carbon piece of steel to the tang and it can go through the pommel and he can peen it

@@JudagDaMighty in my opinion, peening a stacked leather handle is a bit dumb, only because leather will go bad and having it threaded means you can take it apart to replace leather rings

I like the idea of taping the pommel. Then I can always fix or replace it.

I'm with you, to peen it is the last option.

5160 makes good knives. No need for snap test as this is not a high carbon steel. It is an alloy. Forge On!!!
