The blade collar is not unique to Japanese swords (habaki). It may be that Freerk is unaware of the Chinese name for the blade collar (tunkou, 吞口). That being said, tunkou are shaped somewhat differently than habaki (they tend to be more ornate), so the blade collar is not exactly 100% accurate.

@@gusser2121 Thank you for sharing your knowledge of Chinese sword nomenclature! Speaking as the man behind the commission and not the maker, this blade was envisioned as a Chimera of swordmaking traditions, combining Eastern and Western forms and functions. As such, as amazing as his work is, I'd say Freerk is free to call the parts whatever he wants :-)

@headshotwhisperer that's his right as a master craftsman of course! The blade collar he made is definitely a habaki by its shape. If you do an image search on tunkou, you will be able to see what I mean by its design differences.
