The grinder looks like my first one that I built with a variable speed mixer that had a broken stand. Nicely done!

That's the evidence that you don't need hightech tools to realize such a wonderful, sharp knife. Well done mate!

Very nice work. Quite impressive for leaf spring. Can you please provide info on your grinder as it appears to be simple in nature, but very powerful at grinding . It’s the type of grinder I would like to make . Thanks

I have a new grinder now! The old one I built with a very large DC motor form an old treadmill it also used a 10kw light dimmer kind of device and a bridge rectifier and a capacitor to smooth out the voltage. It was a ridiculous machine, not built very well and very powerful and stupid fast. If I started it up too fast it would trip the breakers.

At 2:45 in the video, why is he doing that?
@ForgedInHolland Жыл бұрын
I am removing all the crap / oxidation that is on the hot steel with a wire brush. If there is oxidation on the hot steel you forge it will embed itself into it and can cause dents if it is really bad.

You quench to much you need to deep in water one at a time, let the heat go a little to the edge then deep again dont rush, the heat of the spine is enough to temper the edge, you dont need to temper with a torch..

Assim como os ferreiros japoneses , vejo que você também molha a marreta e a bigorna . Qual a razão para essa prática ?
@ForgedInHolland Жыл бұрын
A água na bigorna se transformará em vapor e removerá as incrustações de forjamento.

Beautiful result. Patient, old-school job! BTW, I noticed your anvil does not 'sing'... how did you silence the 'bell tone' 🤔
@lastone2win Жыл бұрын
the ring of the anvil goes away with a magnet he puts on the horn

I made one a while ago with a similar hamon. Looked awesome but it was a joint build (I forged it heat treated and ground the bevels) and the other guy (did handle and sheath)didn’t like it, said you could “see it without the etch” and so he scotch brited it off. Not cool 👎
@stephenwilliams1364 Жыл бұрын
The power tools kills it....m learning to not use power tools.... use rasps sometimes...but with power tools you don’t really need a forge! Also why are you wetting everything? Place a heated piece of steel on your anvil to more warm it so your metal doesn’t cool off to quick

The water turns into steam and will make a little bang that will blow off the forging scale.
