I love seeing how far you have come from the first knives you made and had in the store. I’m not surprised, though. Your early knives made pretty significant progress with each one you made.

Crazy, isn't it? Especially because he'd often end up with cracks and have to do it all over again.

@@RamoArt I just went back in for a re-watch of them, they were really good little knives too. Back then I'd only been making knives for 2yr full time and thinking, well I really like the feather pattern and if Steve can do it, I can do it too... then by the time he'd made the 3rd billet I was like. Nah, I'm too old for this rubbish, I'd literally be dead on the floor of the shop from a heart attack!

Steve, Most excellent. I am not a smith, but that does not mean that I cannot enjoy the fruits of other’s labors. I really like your fine feather Damascus. Or pattern welded steel if you prefer. Your knife looks ready to tickle someone on the belly 🫣. Many thanks for the time spent watching you grow your skill. Keep the aspidistra flying! God bless, Paul

Beautifull work! I'm sure Neels would go crazy with that. Hopefully he makes one of he's absolutely stunning quillion daggers. I'm blessed to live in a country that has some of the best blade smiths in the world and lucky enough to own some of they're work myself. Most I've learnt, I've learnt from fellow SA blade smiths up to the point where I am one myself.... Keep up the good work bud!

It looked like a trail of smoke if You hold the knife vertical, like if You gently blowing out a candle that You hold in Your fist. So with those additives like a gorgeous handle, guard an so on, it only needs a high end very well made leather sheat. In the same colours that the handle has but the fastners should be Damascus or deeply engraved and aged. ❤

Wow man that's a really beauty! Feather pattern is probably my favorite. Quick question, what do you do with the Damascus cut-offs that aren't usable or big enough to be part of the re-stack? Do they become fishing lures, or do you just toss them out?

Seems to me if you added a piece of flat stock after you split it then it would act as the hollow shaft of the feather and look a bit more like an actual feather. Grind the tip of the stock to a point for a bit more realism. Just a thought. Forge On!!!

Great work! here's a question for you....when you're using the press, are you using a set amount of distance, or just eyeballing the billet? Is it trial and error, or is there a kind of guideline for it? Again, great work! Thanks for the content!
@GreenBeetle Жыл бұрын
I start w very short pressed to set welds if I don’t set them on the anvil then do a few more short presses with long hot heats in between. After that you can press as hard as you want the welds should hold up. I stack kissing blocks someone’s on th press when I need to bring the piece to desired dimensions.
