Non-bladesmiths don't truly appreciate just how much time and effort goes into making sure each project is carefully, and repeatedly dropped. After looking around the shop for that thing that was in your hand just 5 seconds ago, it's the most important part of the job.

Or setting up the hardy tool or press die or whatever to be in the perfect position so you can immediately get to work as soon as your steel comes out of the forge... Only for it to immediately get knocked on the floor or out of alignment.

In New Zealand we call these slashers: basically a machete with an axe handle. Many are made by cutting a leaf out of the springs of an old Landrover, then heating it with a gas torch and hammering it flat, then grinding an edge. The steel has vanadium in it, so holds an edge well.

I'm a blacksmith and custom knife maker myself and almost 20 years ago I traded a guy a couple of my knives for one of those but it was made for splitting cattle and it's about twice the size of the one you made and it was made in the early 1900's. I love huge blades like that. Your's will definitely make short work of splitting a hog. Great job and I just subbed!

Everything was great, but you should finish the front of the scales before you glue them on. Its damn near impossible to do a nice finish on them afterwards. It'll take A LOT of time and you have to tape off the blade (not a problem here because of the working fin8sh) and sabnd slowly and carefully. Love the design, would love to have something like that for my chopping needs.

After watching all the trips and spills in this video…I don’t feel so bad about almost cutting off a finger while cutting out a knife blank.
