That's great! That's exactly how I got my start. I would recommend watching walter sorrel's videos, or, if you can swing it, buying his DVD set about forging Japanese blades. It's INCREDIBLY informative, though it is price at ~$300 USD

I really like the choices of materials used here and repurposed in a way that emulates the traditional techniques here. As much as I like the other smiths, you've got my vote this time around.

Not showing the torch in the time lapse is a pretty cool effect. The next section suddenly becomes orange and you make the bend.

I'm not sure why I find it so rewarding to make things out of garbage/found items. I think it might be the uniqueness of the item coupled with the fact that it could be rotting in a landfill if i hadn't used it. They are all my most prized possessions.

I don't know much about metal. Will this sword have any durability when it's just a spring that's been untwisted?
@Kratos_God_of_50_BMG2 ай бұрын
That is 5160 spring steel taken from a cars suspension system, so if it can be used on cars I think it’ll more than do the job for a katana. Spring steel swords can sometimes be bent 45°-90° and return back to straight.

You do know that katanas aren't forged with the curve, right? They are forged straight, clayed, and then quenched which curves the blade from the difference in cooling speed between the bear steel and the clayed steel.

To test this sword, my client hit it hard and with all his strength against the iron beam that was fixed in the wall and some of the edge of the sword was crushed. Is hitting the sword with that force to test the sword a correct test or not? thank you
