I’ve watched a lot of videos of this kind of craftsmanship, this is the best of the best. The detail is amazing...

That surface grinder is a beast. Mine is the old school with grinding wheels that always need to be recalibrated due too loss of the grinding wheel material. And I love the respiratory safety gear also. That is a must have when grinding any thing. I like the fact that you are showing all the safety gear needed to stay healthy while performing this kind of work. I've been a custom knife maker for forty years. And safety is job one. Awesome job my friend.

amazing work! though I am confused about one bit, why do you clamp wood around it at certain points? I would have to guess for straightness, but could that not also be achieved with something less flammable?
@ConcreteLand2 жыл бұрын
I think the wood promotes slow cooling as well which is beneficial at times.

with a gas forge is better, the milds steel is bad for knifes and high carbon steel is better. gas forge can be of butane gas or asetylene in a cube of refractary bricks. the anvil can be a piece of metal in a stiff block

There's no doubt that is a true masterpiece by a truly gifted artist and craftsman, but I'v to say there are perhaps 3% mistakes due to anachronisms. Why putting a Latin slogan in Gothic Fraktura letters on a Greek/Spartan sword? I would have chosen at least Greek-like letters, in the best case original Greek letters and a Greek slogan. And I would have edged it on the bow of the guard, not the straight side. Would have looked much cooler. And the boar-head is no doubt masterly crafted, but I personally connect a boar-head much more to Celtic/Gaul culture. I would have chosen a wolf's/eagle's/lion's head (Sparta), an owl's head (Athens), a bull's head (Minoan culture), ram's head (Thessalia, Jason and the golden fleece), perhaps even a Lakedaimon-sign for Sparta (Lakedaimon is the true name of the Spartans' home country, Sparta was just the capital city. That's why the Spartans had the Greek letter L, the Lamda, on their shields.), or a Medusa's head or snake's head. Perhaps even a Spartan's helmet or the head of a Cyclops would have been a cool pommel. Just an attempt for constructive critique, no malice.

why don't you specify the weight of the product? Such a heavy block, just chop wood and hang it on the wall!
