Beautiful peace man! I really love how the edge of the San Mai came out! Apparently Darth Vader was in the room as you were putting a coat of finish on the handle… He must’ve been very pleased!

This is so cool. During quarantine I started Forged in Fire and am now deep down the youtube hole and learning so much. Broadswords and katanas are fun and all, but this is the kind of blade you can use everyday.

That is diesel. It helps protect the steel prior to the forge welding.

Its just a preliminary temper cycle while my kiln cools down. I've actually been on Forged In Fire, Season 6 Episode 8 :)

Beautiful work. I wonder what the weight of your knife is? (I’m curious because I live in Thailand and smaller sized blades here weigh a good 2+ pounds, which seems a lot for prolonged use. I had many and eventually gave them all away.)

It's a laminate or "san-mai" blade, that is what you're seeing.

@@feralcarbonfiber1775 Yes, it helps protect the steel, and leaves a fine layer of carbon, which can help the welding process. It's possible to exclusively use diesel, kerosene, or WD-40 with no flux, but I didn't do that here. Thanks for watching!
