Its shaped like a katana .... but a true katana lies in the steel and its forging process. Its the continuous folding of the steel and hammering it. Fold again and repeat. It's how the steel becomes both strong, elastic inside and hard to break ... then the slurry and quenching to harden the edges and maintain its sharpness. Its also why it's so expensive to buy a real katana. Of course, all of the swords made today are purely ceremonial or decorative.

I was on Facebook and somebody posted a “cliff notes” version of this video and it popped up on my video feed. Something told me to stop watching it because it was sped up and the important aspect of the build was lost. Didn’t take much to find it on KZbin and I’m glad I did! Now, if the same blacksmith posted this video posted the abbreviated version on Facebook then fine, but if it was some poser then I gotta say that they don’t know anything about true craftsmanship. would be interesting to see a functional version. that co2 cartridge could be connected to the tubes that could achieve at least two different functions: first is, use the co2 as some kind of reactive propellant to augment the wielders strength and help accelerate the blade in "deceisive" moments (I know, corny) second is, you could use the co2 as means of dealing more damage via injecting the whole capsules worth of gas in flash while stabbing (there are already knives like this that exist). the pathway in this case doesn't really need to be dirrectly drilled or othervise incorporated in the blade, thin copper tubes could be laid down the bohi on both side of the blade or something like that.
