I love this! your work is improving every time! I remember being your first subscriber! that was a sweet knife then and now a better axe!
@MaxxsHandle8 жыл бұрын
you stabilize your anvil more, you will lose less energy, firmly attach it to that frame and. stack up mass on it, again making sure it cant shift around. also, a larger hammer means you get more out of each strike. feel free to disregard this entirely, I'm just a hobbyist, and you do good work in the end. I just thought i would try to helo make it a bit easier less strikes, less possibility for mistakes
@MaxxsHandle8 жыл бұрын
+Miller Knives No need for thanks. See if it helps first. You've actually given me an idea on how to make an anvil, as opposed to this large rock I found. I've been watching since that wood handled kiridachi video, so I'll be on the lookout! good luck my friend!
@gunnarreiffenstein22357 жыл бұрын
dont grind the sharp end of an object against the direction of the belt, cos if you are unlucky and the belt is cut, you can get pretty hurt.
@gunnarreiffenstein22357 жыл бұрын
but great job
@mzmadmike7 жыл бұрын
Incorrect. That is exactly how one grinds blades. The fear you have is not born out in operation. Every book on blade making shows this, and I've been doing it for 33 years.
@Ih8stupidhumans7 жыл бұрын
+Mike Williamson Yet, when you strop a blade, it is done just that way. I've also seen makers grind with the belt traveling away from the edge. Cutco does this, for one.

Due to the shape of the handle the weapon is hard to control, but over all , It will kill. Lol thanks for the share.

A noob here, would you need to harden the steel again or can you leave it the way you bought it? I believe a wrench is already quite hard and probably heat treated, but I noticed you heated the nearly finished product and quenched it in something, I assume water since there were no flames. I am thinking of copying this and seeing how close I can get, would love this bit of info, I know how to do everything else shown here but I want a usable product in the end :D
@damiaan70218 жыл бұрын
Miller Knives thanks, will first try this with smaller wrenches until I spend money on a big one, haha.
@damiaan70218 жыл бұрын
to sum it up for myself, you re-heat treat the wrench after everytime you hammer on it?
@damiaan70218 жыл бұрын
Miller Knives okay, thanks! I'm all hyped to get to work tomorrow, hahaha
@griffinstahura83538 жыл бұрын
+Miller Knives you should make a spear head from a wrench
@kadenkaps77648 жыл бұрын
you would need to harden it again because after forging the metal becomes softer and the previous heat treat of the wrench is ruined
@stuarthill15817 жыл бұрын

How do you figure? I've got a 1000 year old Viking axe here. Guess how the edge was put on? It was forge welded. That was the standard way of making one before about 1900 when steel (vs iron) became available in large quantities.
