Forged from Wrought iron and steel, without machinery or welding equipment.
--- Attention - Crosses forged into late Viking axes is NOT my idea, please checkout part two, there you can see a picture of a real archaeological example from Scandinavia. --
The struggle between Christian "Vikings" and real Vikings where not over in a few hours, and there are many archaeological examples of Christian symbols mixes with Viking symbols.
The Axe is not meant for cutting wood! and the thin hollow structure is made to make a super fast low weight Axe.
This "Dane axe" is a battle axe based on some findings from Scandinavia.
Music is made by Torben Will Iversen and Martin Schack.

Very educational. My first thought was that is was all chiseled out of a solid blade.

@SidtheKid Interesting. Maybe that information should be in the video. From what I've seen, a lot of people seem to abuse the word "viking" and slap it on everything. Of course, I am not an expert on this stuff. In my original comment, I merely stated my opinion of the aesthetic of the video.

It is a late Viking early medieval type axe. I believe the starting point was around 15mm x 40mm x 200mm

@@anderssoberra5992 I'm tempted to subscribe, but that music is too loud and distracting. I also like to hear the hammer and anvil sounds. I like your work though. Might have to watch a few more of your videos on mute. I'm an aspiring blacksmith and I intend to make tools and artistic things over knives. So your other videos look quite interesting indeed.

When the Vikings started becoming Christian, it wasn't an overnight change. They would incorporate Jesus/God into their current belief system, the thor's hammer necklaces /motifs started representing a cross, as to derive power from both deities. This axe is a replica of axes found from the era of Vikings. samlinger.natmus.dk/DO/asset/2968 samlinger.natmus.dk/DO/asset/2015

It's just a clickbait title. No viking would wield an axe that weak. The support is non existent, first shield it hit would cause catastrophic damage. And then there is the cross....not gonna go there.

@SidtheKid so, you mean the part of history where the virus of christianity exterminated the true vikings? Or do you mean the centuries of pagan viking terror that swept europe? If christian vikings wielded these kinds of weapons in battle it's no wonder they died out. This weapon is not strong enough to be used in battle. It is most likely a ceremonial or decorative recreation. I repeat my earlier statement, this weapon would be destroyed by 1 strike against a shield. It is not battle worthy.

Well done but you are pushing it by calling it a Viking axe. No Viking axe had a cross in the middle of the blade accept when it had just cut through a Christian monks neck..

It's christianity infected vikings. Cross can prevent extracting an axe from victim and those false viking will loose his weapon and his life. Also that massive hole throw away all the weight of an axe. Not a weapon just an art. Like painting on the wall :D
