Absolutely LOVE this style of video. It's easy to follow the steps and watch the movement of the steel heat after heat to see the "goal" of the heats as the knife takes shape.

I like that you are keeping the "natural" look of the metal after it has been worn away by time. Great video.

Nothing has illustrated to me more how hot grinding gets than when I watched the water on the blade evaporate as you tidied up the edges! Amazing.

Hardness testing files
@Ryan-np4rb5 жыл бұрын
Like Mr. Finto said, they are hardness files. Each file goes up in the degree of hardness based on the Rockwell scale. At the HRC 65 file it started marring the surface of the knife indicating that the file was harder than the heat treated knife. This knife was prob around 63-65 HRC, depending on how well you trust the files, which is a very hard edge. Great for edge retention. Edge won’t dull as quickly.

Damascus was never "lost." People have been pattern welding iron for 2500 years. The specific mine for Wootz steel played out, but we can easily duplicate the alloy content with modern metallurgy.
