I just repaired light box jaw tongs, misused by students. The boss broke out and I welded new stock to it, forgetting the plane needed. I twisted and reforged as you have. I'm 68 now and forget steps sometimes. Getting old ain't for sissy's as they say. Thanks for the video Dennis.

Until you said something, I thought I was witnessing a new process I hadn’t come across before. Twisting things up aside, you did actually present a new technique, using a slitting chisel, rather than a round punch, and drifting round. Made sense immediately but as an amateur I’d likely have struggled to figure out how to move the mass and punched smaller round. An obvious solution once you see it once. :D

I only use a round punch when the diameter of the punch is equal to or less than 1/3 the width of the material otherwise I slot punch and drift.

Good to see you Denis! Great job on the Tongs! I’m still trying to get back into the shop my friend after 3 years & a couple of Neck & Back surgeries maybe by my 60th birthday next year I can be back at the anvil at least some of the day…???
