Forgotten about 66 Shelby Cobra - Been Sitting in a Sea Can for Years

Finally time to bring out my 1966 Shelby Cobra kit car. You guys have probably seen it in the background of a few Nova videos. I have a few storage units/lots and sometimes I forget what I have and where it is. This car has been sitting in a shipping container for probably 2 or 3 years. I decided it was either time to start driving it again or it would be time to pass it on to the next guy.
After sitting for a few years, the Cobra fired up and ran great on the way home. Just goes to show that old cars WANT to run! The next hurdle I have to deal with is the weather, roadsters and bad weather usually don't mix.
This little hot rod is a kit car with a BUILT 302, T 5 trans and a ford 9 inch. What else do you need to know about a race car....... It's built for 1 thing and it does it very well.

@@hydroy1 normally I would agree with you. But I grew up driving several 289 ford's from the 60s. I can't drive a Ford around the block without it breaking on me. That said my dad had a 289 Galaxy and and couple friends had 289 Mustangs. We all drove them pretty hard and they asked for more every day. With the exception of maybe an old flat head for cool factor, a 289 would be the only ford I would ever buy

Had a 63 260 2 barrel, 71 and a 69 351 windsor, 63 390 2 barrel , 66 390 4 barrel, other then 1 fuel pump diphram and several carburetor rebuilds they all held up well

The Cobra is way cool!!! Love the exhaust note at idle and when going down the road. Would have never thought you would have one, because of all the other tri 5's, T and Nova. As far as your hair, a pony tail would have helped. Then again, a nice cut would be better.

That binder is a big help when buying that. I have stopped buying things like that unless documentation is included that helps me out. I love patience fast when I go to work on it and I have to figure out what the last person did.

Cool Cobra!! We built one almost 20 years ago. It was a Shell Valley car, loads of fun. But I'm 6'4" and didn't fit too good lol. We were out cruising and stopped a soccer game cause everyone had to have a look lol!

I painted one of those about 30 years ago for the guy that built it. We used Porsche Guards red on it. Can't remember what white I used but knowing me it was probably Corvette Classic white. lol

I like the Cobra! A guy brought one like yours to the local car show. The engine was full race, or at least had a lot of race parts in it. It was barely streetable. When I was a kid in the 60's a neighbor had a Sunbeam Tiger, I believe it was a competitor of the Cobras, I loved to see and hear it going down the street.

Fabulous cobra,you are right about the 302 being a reliable engine,l left my 65 fastback (with a 302)for 27 years in a garage apart from a new fuel pump a few fuel line rubbers and a filter she fired on the third attempt and ticked over fine!

Me too, life called my wife's divorce lawyer. It was the summer of 1975, live 45 miles south of Hershey with the Sunday paper's SPORT CAR for sale column listing a 427 Cobra with a Carlisle phone number for $10,000. Said was never wrecked and the engine was freshened. That October it was relisted for $7,500 with a uncrated NASCAR 427 side oiler included ! ! ! If you like it, BUY IT! And keep it. Push Truck EDIT: I don't think the T will get a metal roof insert!

Don't sell bro! When I was in my early twenties, a friend of mine had an original AC cobra 427. It was black. I was lucky enough to get a ride in it. It's a ride I'll never forget. Yours might not be as fast, but it's got to be a kick in the ass to drive! It sounds wicked! Love the sound of that 289,the cam really sounds great!

Definitely keep it! You’ll regret it if you sell and may not be able to easily replace. Personally I wouldn’t pay any attention to comments about tools on the fenders or even gravel roads...it’s a driver and a toy to play with (as a hot rod should be), not a museum or showroom piece. I’m sure if you keep it you’ll enhance it nicely as you see fit.
