I don’t know what it is about the early 80s, but I just love re-examining the pop culture. Unashamedly cheesy, refreshingly optimistic, even in the face of real world problems, and so many exciting new things just coming to people, like VCRs and CDs. I never get tired of going back to this era.
@thegreatwhodeeny10732 жыл бұрын
There was a reason for the optimism. It was pretty much our country's peak. Yeah the 90s were pretty good as well but we were headed in a downward spiral afterwards. I'm also fascinated by 80s culture. We all took it for granted.

Our phones and the internet have made us less creative. Lots of people have mentioned it lately. Today it's all about TikTok(Yikes) etc. When these were made the creator actually put some originally thought into the commercial. Today it's nothing but copycats. Craig Fergerson talked about this in an interview. He won't use Social Media anymore and stays off his phone so he can come up with original material. Watching Commercials in real-time and only a few times is actually better. Just my opinion

@pannoni4 In hindsight I think 1986 was the absolute peak of 80s culture. Yeah 87-89 was amazing too but 86 has it all. Yeah video game/arcade culture was incredible...the later generations will never understand it. The graphics were pretty basic but we were on the ground floor... building what would come later. I also liked how arcade culture got intertwined with mall culture. I agree that it would be amazing if we could somehow go forward in reverse...a return to a simpler time where things aren't moving at lightning speed.

@@jerrygil1965 President Reagan was the President of the United States during these years. Many of us who grew up in the 80's have great memories. So maybe it had a lot to do with who was president. 🙂

Love that first ad=Mcdonalds:THE MUSICAL!😆 as well as the Broadway smash,"Coke Is It!" The ABC Star Tunnel intro never gets old.. Can this volume be shown in Friday's live-stream..?

mcdonalds was trying to capitalize on the popularity of the movie FAME with that commercial. i havent seen that commercial since 80s but instantly remembered the song lol

@@bb-gc2tx, you must mean the Coke ad. McDonald's totally did its own thing. In fact, "Hopscotch," was a variation, on the original, "Big Mac," complete with patty-cake style hand movements, between pairs of kids. We all did it, in school, lol. I still remember every move!

My mom still sings 2 of her fav songs from commercials! One is “Give a hamburger to someone you like. Give some fries and a shake and make someone happy!” She says is a McDonald’s jingle the other is Millers Outpost that was a jeans store? And it went”From all of us to all of you a merry Christmas star. From Millers Outpost,A merry Christmas star!” She doesn’t remember much of it now due to illness but it makes me happy that I remember☺️

I'm glad you didn't play the SINE-OFF commercial from '74. It would've brought back funny memories. I was 5yrs old and angry cause my Mom (God rest her soul) told me that I couldn't go play until I finished my small glass of milk. She went to the bathroom. My baby brother was sitting in his high-chair in the living-room. That SINE-OFF commercial came on. The commercial had a lady saying, "ESS AYE IN EEE - OH EFF EFF!!". I thought it was funny so I kept repeating it and spitting a mouthful of milk in my baby brothers face!! I remember laughing cause it would take his breath and was dripping off his eyelashes. My Mom whom had been laughing in the bathroom cause she could hear me repeating the commercial, had no idea what I was actually doing. She came out of the bathroom, saw in horror of what I was doing and whooped the livin' tar outta me!! When my Dad got home, I justifiably got another whoopin'. xD
