Hello Hank, Dub and Zee. One thing to look for on the older Fords was the orange or red “Kill Knob”,which is where the choke knob is usually located on the gasoline tractors. Sometimes the cable will act as though it is moving but not moving at the proper area of the injector pump. As you are well aware Hank,,If the injector pump is defeated it is not going to do anything at all. With no traces of smoke coming from the exhaust, It’s worth taking a look at for good measure. I would say that the rings are completely stuck and not building up any compression whatsoever. Regarding the metric bolts, I have a 1987 John Deere 165 hydro lawn tractor that I am working on that has all metric fasteners. What started out as a broken hydrostatic transmission belt replacement escalated into replacing the hydro cooling fan which meant that I had to take the transmission mounting bolts all loose and raise the tractor frame up off of the transmission just to swap out what was left of the old fan for the new fan. While I was working on the drive belt, I replaced the 2 idler pulleys and replaced the nylon bushings in the idler arm assembly. A few of the frame bolts were missing on the left side of the tractor frame which I also replaced. I can take my tractor just about completely apart using 10mm, 13mm and a 14mm wrenches. Yeah, I agree that it is crazy for the older stuff out there to have metric fasteners, But we have to play with the hand that we are dealt, So To Speak.

Yeah, I've never seen an electrician wearing a ring, watch, etc. A good friend of mine once said, "I've been bit several times. Not bad which is why I'm still here. Even still, my wife knows I ain't wearing a wedding ring until I'm retired."
@danieljay9526 ай бұрын
Yeah I don't wear my wedding ring I've been doing electrical work for over 20 years
@ProtonOne114 ай бұрын
I would be a bit more worried to have the car battery connected to the tractor battery and both of them still wired up to the tractor while hank is trying to remove the wires from the starter. If you get close enough to actually short out two live terminals with a ring on your finger, you did miss quite a few essential safety steps before... (As an electrician, you always keep one hand (the one with the wedding ring) in your pants pocket, and the other hand inside a 1000V insulated safety rubber glove anyway, if you are working anywhere near something live at mains voltage)

Hey Hank!! Hope all is well. In regards to the first tractor early on in the video .. 1. Verify fuel shut on/off lever is in the on position. 2. Verify fuel flow all the way to injector pump. Note* while you were cranking it over it sounded like it was weak on compression. There are alot more that could be done but to keep it short on here once you verify fuel flow,hook truck to it and put in high gear and pull it off. That way it can build up enough heat and compression to pop off. Hey... it's a diesel man it should start. Keep on you will get it! Lee

That first tractor definitely is suffering from lack of compression. It should have at least hit on the ether. Probably a stuck valve, or bad head gasket. Too bad Dub and Zee weren't there to see the second tractor start....hopefully they saw the video. There will be one to start in their presence....don't give up!! 👍😎 Thanks for sharing, Hank!!

Ford 600 series was not around in the 60s. They didn’t come out until the 70s and early 80s. That’s a later model because it has an air filter rather than an oil bath. We ran about 8 10 Fords on our farm. We had a 6600, 7600 and 9600. Simply tractors but very reliable.

The starter motor should get 12 volts at the same time the solenoid gets 12 volts, so the bendix throws the pinion into the teeth of the flywheel as soon as the starter starts spinning, that's the way it's supposed to work. Those young women are getting the best education that a youngster can get, experience, the fact that they want to learn about engines is awesome. God bless those young ladies, and you too, Hank 🙂
@dannelson30096 ай бұрын
You can use the PB blaster to get the compression to go up , but you only hook up the ground cable to the back of the starter and the other ones are to the solenoid

Next time you try to pull start a tractor, put the tractor in a "road gear " instead of a lower gear. What I mean is if it is an 8 speed transmission put it in 7th gear to pull start it. Then the back tires won't slide. I've had a couple of fords just like those and had to pull start them MANY times. They are actually easier to get started by pull starting them - especially when cold and you need to bleed the injectors, too. Don't even need to crack the lines. Just pull it about 100 feet or so at about 5 mph

I agree and I know first hand myself. When I was a toddler I was watching my brother test a lead acid battery with a hydrometer back in the late 70's a little acid flew into my eyes and I almost went blind but I was super lucky due to the quick reaction of my brother and mom rinsing my eyes out and having my eyes rinsed out again at the doctors I can see out of both eyes.

Hank, not being ugly, you never been good with starters, lol, but if you did not have the shut down pushed in just under the throttle lever, it will never start. Plus the tank has a pit cock lever to turn fuel off on the bottom of tank, unless it has been deleted before, it needs to be checked for slime clogging it.
