I’ve owned dozers all my life, I grew up helping dad pay the farm off when I was only 9 years old running an old “cable eight” we called it, a D-8 Cat Crawler Dozer essentially, and we always had problems with the old dry pins and bushings seizing up if it sit only for a week, in rain and bad weather, that last time we moved it a couple years ago, it had been sitting for nearly 20 years, and I was successful in getting them broken loose using off road diesel fuel, just like we did in the old days. It’s far more expensive now, then it was back in 1999, when it was last worked around the farm, but it still worked all the same. It has a very low time UC like that as well, and all we would do is put off road diesel (ORD) road diesel (RD) would be the same science, just ORD is a little cheaper. Lol. Just put some in a garden sprayer, pump it up and saturate all the pens over and under then let it sit all night, come back in the next morning and do it again then, when you get it moving, it should be free, or very pretty easily. Then once you get it working, stop and spray the pins down every now and then with diesel fuel, then eventually, you will get them working really well. Just don’t let your friends at the EPA know you are doing that. 😜

First of all , the dc starter was only designed to start the 2 cylinder pony motor , if the pony motor has good compression and tuned good it does fairly well starting the diesel motor , if the pony motor isnt maintained well , you have big problems in the winter . I`ve worked around several cable blade 8`s and ran 1 a little , they were a tough , good dozer .
@davekauffman872711 ай бұрын
I wouldn't worry about a carburetor or anything else until cranking the little pony engine gets figured out, whatever got both the pony and main engine turning might be the key. This sure is a learning experience, I've never seen a starter motor that doesn't have any kind of bendix on it to engage the motor pinion to the flywheel, please do a follow up on this so we see how everything works, this is very interesting 🙂

Take some old rags or newspapers along and stuff them in the cavities around the components you're working on.That way you don't drop tools and bolts into bellypans that aren't accessible. It prevents those impromptu magnet fishing expeditions .You don't always get your tools back.

One lever is decompression, the other lever is your bendix. Hold the bendix and decompression levers at the same time in order to build oil pressure in the diesel before releasing the decompression lever and keeping the bendix engaged.

I believe it'll help it out majorly and help improve compression to. Along with freeing up the sticking rings inside of those cylinders to. That pony engine starter may need overhauling really good to. Like bushings re- greased that nut is the adjustment for the flywheel pressure plate engagement release. I'd use some pre-treated ethanol free gasoline fuel in that setting up pony engine to help out with cleaning out that updraft carburetor needle and jets to. It's also called A flow jet carburetor to.

You will have to pull it to start and it takes a strong tractor to pull it fast enough to kick over. We always let the blade down on a block to hook a chain butt sometimes my father in law would forget. If you dig a trench under blade then run chain under and hook up high on tractor, chain will lift blade when you tighten up chain to pull it just dont let chain go slack real fast

Hi, Folks. That is NOT a D8H. Best guess - 13A series, built from 1953 to 1955. The clue is the fuel tank extension coming forward on the right side. Wouldn't it be nice if they 'ackshully' KNEW what they were doing. For a start, that electrical system would be SIX volts for the starter on the pony motor, NOT 24 'jolts' like they thinking. Then the lever ahead of the starter pinion housing engages the starter pinion as well as activating the starter switch. Did they check ANY fluids before trying to 'make noise'??????? Still, HATZOFF to 'em for having a go and trying to save the old girl. Just my 0.02. You all have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

I'd pull out the injectors and pour some ATF marvel mystery oil down into the cylinders to pre- soak the engine cylinder's with A while. Then put the injectors back in it after removing them to add in the pre-soaking solutions. Let it set inside of the engine. until you can make it back out there to it again. To try it out by either removing the injectors to turn the engine over to clear out each cylinder and put the injectors back in one by one.

my grandfather after he retired still did jobs operating digging ponds and such, but he had a really old d6 with a pony I used to go with him to go around with a grade stick. he never really said much or explained what he was doing. I can say this that machine had way too many levers going on considering it only had a blade that went up and down. I think that's why I never rode around with him, or he didn't want me that close idk.
