Thanks so much to Joie de Fi and Shannon Green for the inspiration to try my hand at waxing papers! I've experimented with a variety of types of paper in this video to see what results we'd get! What fun! No stamping or splattering in this video, but I'm loving the results of just the pure design showing through too! So many possibilities! Thanks so much for crafting with me today! xoxo

Oh what great fun, I was captivated watching Joie as it reminds me of a technique from the 90's for faux batik on paper......... the greatest success is either on thin papers or heavier that has been wet, making it easier to crumple and then iron dried before placing the wax...... let the wild rumpus experimentation begin!!!!!! 🦋🦋🦋🦋💗🦋

Very interesting effect for pages of interest! I really like the vellum and old paper - so cool 😎 My daughter bought fabric dipped in bees wax at a craft fair. It is used for keeping food fresh in your refrigerator. She wrapped half an avocado and 2 days later it was still green and as fresh as the day she cut it!

Hey hey Gayle. When I saw “waxing” I thought it was going to be using a commercial adhesive waxer like we used for graphic arts back in the 1970 -2000. Before the computer & digital graphics took over we “pasted” pieces of text galleys & art to a page board to be photographed. In California my boys waxed up their skis & surf boards kinda like this, lol.

This has been around for a while. What people have found is that the wax bleeds through to other papers once in the journal. The best thing to do is to use newspaper and iron off the residual wax. You still get the wax effect without the other papers being altered. Thank you for experimenting on the various papers. I think I will try ledger paper and Rachel’s papers. I will sand but not crinkle the paper first. Then crinkle the waxed paper and spray inks in the cracks. Then iron off the excess wax. I am hoping for a batik effect

i found some of this type of paper when clearing out my family members belorngings and it turned out to be very sticky paper after sitting in the bookcase for awhile. It also made papers that were near it kind of sticky and we were not even having the high temperatures we have been currently having. It looks cool what you are doing - hope yours turns out better than the ones I found that my relative bound in a journal he made.

Hi Gayle I am late watching tonight but I loved watching you play! Using up your beads was a good idea but I think they maybe give you too thick of a coat, maybe you can lay another sheet of coffee dyed or printed copy paper on top (right sides together) and reheat it so both pieces share the wax? I have been doing this since my Mom showed me back in the 70s and we always used an old box grater to make the wax fine. It uses less wax and is easier to apply when grated. If you wanted a scented wax you can always add in a drop or so of essential oil. It also works with candles, parafin, and crayons, yep crayons work great on thin paper and give a stained glass look. I like adding in pressed flowers when I am apply the wax, it gives you that home made paper look. Whatever you do I am still watching because I enjoy your positive outlook and friendly nature in general. My son has asked why I watch even if I know how to do the project already. I tell him the same thing plus you just never know maybe you only think you knew how to do something and learn a new way. It is all about sharing, creating, learning, and being in a happy place! Love ya girly! 🌟💖💖💖🌟

It’s fun to wax papers. Have you ever tried Daddy Van’s unscented beeswax furniture polish? I learned about this product from Shannon years ago. Gives much the same effect. Comes in a tin and I brush it on. Just not as thick as waxing, but can still see through. Yes, I had to stop the video and go wax some tags and a photo. It’s funny how many things I’ve done in the past and forget about until a video like this reminds me.

Such fun! It may be different in person, but on camera I prefer the pages that have pops of color - such as the pink lines in the ledger pages. 😁. What if you used coffee scented wax in a coffee journal? Or a floral scent for nature? It might get obnoxious over time. 🤣🤣🥰

Good morning, Gayle! I found this technique very interesting, however, before trying it I have a few questions: 1. How do the most commonly used glues perform on waxed papers? (ie, will glitter glue adhere to waxed paper? what about glue stick glue?). 2. My guess you could not use any of the waxed pages for journaling??? When I first began to watch this video, the first thing I thought of was fabric! (As a seamstress, my mind seems to go in that direction!). I would think waxing the fabric flips would render a very interesting tactile dimension to your journals! I will give this a try and report back to you! Thanks for bringing this technique to us today! Have a great weekend!💗

A great morning to you my friend! I really enjoyed your discussion in your last video about where you used to live. Yes moving can be tough. As an ex-military brat and dependent wife, I've moved many times in my life. Even after military life, which I've read, often happens with military kids who grow up in that life. The hardest part to that is losing friends when you leave. Always the most difficult part for me. Anyway, this looks like fun. I wish there was smell-evision AND feel-evision! 😊 I have some bee's wax I'll have to try this out. Have a wonderful day, Gayle! Take care! Sue ♥

Hi Gayle!😊😊love the video. I use encaustic wax with damar resin by R&F, a 1 pound bag is about $25 on Amazon. A pancake griddle and a natural bristle brush works great to get the wax evenly distributed over the paper. It's also fun to do art work with mdf board, canvas panel, or any hard flat surface and embed various textiles or dried flowers or feathers or... I wonder it a box cover would be good for this? Maybe Mixed Media Monday?

I bet a cheese grater would be a great way to shave down chunks of wax. Used wax melts that have lost their smell would work too. I wonder what would happen if you put the wax under the paper and then added heat. Would it pull the wax up through the bottom? I see experimentation in my future. What if you layered wax and papers, then applied heat. I bet it would make goid splotches and look mire organic.

I’ve seen people just take the brick of wax directly to the bottom of their hot iron and just rub it right on the iron and then put the iron on the paper. I told Shannon Green that and she said she had tried it but she was clumsy and when she flipped the iron over to put it on the paper she splattered hot wax all over including on her self so that’s something you’d have to be real careful with.

I think your iron hit its stride! This kind of reminds me of the faux leather technique with melted wax beads instead of hair conditioner. I think I'd do any 'coloring' before waxing as the wax will likely act as a resist. You made some great waxy papers!
