I saw this movie at a tiny, last-run theater in spring of 1980. Just by chance, there was a dollar store in the shopping center and there was a *ton* of BSG stuff there. I got the Marvel Super Special comic, a Cylon action figure and the 12" Colonial Warrior. My brother got the 12" Colonial Warrior, Imperious Leader figure, and the Cracked Magazine issue. The stuff must have been in liquidation, it was all $1.00 or less. We couldn't believe our luck! I remember sitting on a bench waiting for the bus, scribbling BSG stuff in a cheap drawing tablet. Great memory! I was 8 years old and had loved it on TV.

Yep, not forgotten. In the 'sensurround' sound system, like The Battle of Midway at a similar time, this Battlestar Galactica movie appeared in the major cinemas in London and elsewhere in Britain back then, the second one too. Second was quickly dropped when hardly anyone went to see it as it was killed by 'word of mouth' as being the 'Fire in Space' episodes extended with footage from another movie entirely. This was back when a cinema movie, TV movie, TV miniseries etc. would all be cut from the material shot, much as 'Shogun' was, but the idea suffered from the law of diminishing returns, timing (selling something three times in Britain is going beyond a joke) and went out of fashion quickly.

Yes, definitely saw it on release and it was mainly from the Episodes The Living Legand, part 1 and 2. The thing is the Battlestar Galactica TV wasn't shown in all parts of the UK, where the ITV channel was split into different regions, which meant that you might be able to watch it in one region, an example being Television South (TVS) but wouldn't show in London Weekend Television (LWT) and Themes Television. One peculiarity is where the human looking Cylon tells the robot version that it will have a difficult time evading detection. The robot Cylon responds with 'Earth is no stranger to robots.' How would any Cylon know that? Also, it wasn't in the original Galactica 1980 episode.

I have this movie version of Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack but it's only just a movie version of the 2 Part episode The Livinig Legend. I bought it on VHS videotape around 1991 at the Suncoast Video store in a mall but they have been long out of business now for almost 30 years at least that particular store but the mall is still open today but there is now a clothing store there. I only keep my VHS videotape original copy of it as a collectors item since it's kinda hard to find but not impossible and not exactly rare. Battlestar Galactica' s Theme music soundtrack for the Original Pilot Episode movie and the actual original series was beautifully orchestrated by Stu Phillips at the time and I think it sounds better than the Star Wars movie theme music by John Williams at least in my opinion. Although Star Wars fans may disagree but I'm a fan of both Galactica and Star Wars but Galactica is much better in my opinion.

I have this on an official DVD! Because most of it came from THE LIVING LEGEND, it hangs together pretty well... until you get to the end. They use the floating minefield scene from the 3-part pilot story for part of the PEGASUS' journey, but you know it's actually the GALACTICA because you can see her fleet in the same shot! Sheba's injury plotline is removed to allow the inclusion of her FIRE IN SPACE scenes, Cain's dialogue is duplicated, and in the final scene, poor editing suggests our beloved heroes are standing in two different places at the same time! Even so, I still love it. "Launch When Ready!" 🚀🚀🚀

There were, I think, 12 movies which were edited-together episodes, such as “the space cassanova” which was the lost warrior and..lcrap, I can’t remember. Another was murder in space and the young lords cleverly edited together. The idea was that they had two few episodes to syndicated, but they have very high production values, so they figured if I edited the two-part episodes together as TV movies and edited the hour long episodes together as others give you about is they could syndicate them as TV movies rather than individual episodes, and they could recoup their investment that way. It was a good plan. Are used to see the things on UHF channels in the early 80s, but then they just sort of disappeared. So all told I think there are 11 or 12 Battlestar Galactica TV movies. In addition to the one you’re talking about, I think, at least several of the others were released theatrically overseas.

@@mahatmarandy5977 if you remember John Dykstra blew the budget on the special effects just getting the pilot done. "Experiment I'm Terra" was the most interesting one of these telefilms, with the opening of an Astronaut finding a "Logbook" of Galactica floating in space. Lorne Greene & I think Patrick Macnee narrate this history of BSG, featuring artwork of the lizard Cylons. Of course, this opening makes one wonder if the Galactica was destroyed & never found Earth, and how this "Logbook" was just floating in space. The telefilm then launches into the "Galactica 1980" episode- The Return of Starbuck". Most of these telefilm were bridged by voiceovers- they clearly didn't get Richard Hatch to do it and got a soft- talking voice actor sound alike to do Apollo👍
@mahatmarandy5977 Жыл бұрын
@@webstersempire i think that’s the only one i never saw, though the intro is on youtube. The bridging was sometimes clever, sometimes not. In “space cassanova” it was literally two pairs of hands holding polaroids of Cassie, Athena, and the girl from Mutiny in Space, and pretty weak soundalikes discussing starbuck’s love life. OTOH, the one that merged murder in space with the young lords altered a scene where starbuck breaks out of the brig, gets in a ciper, and was about to flee when apollo and boomer point out he’s got nowhere to go, so he gives up and returns to the brig. In the tv movie, he actually launches, crashes, the young lords happens, and then boomer and apollo rescue him in a shuttle and take him back to stand trial. No new footage in thqt one, just some clever editing and it worked really well
