He was never the flashiest nor the most skilled big man in the league, but in the 1960s he was one of the best because he just quietly did his job. Playing with Wilt Chamberlain he managed to average 16 points and 18 rebounds. The Forgotten Legend Amongst Great NBA Centers - Nate Thurmond!

Both Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell said in many an interview that as much fun as it was playing against each other, they considered Nate the Great the one player they _least_ liked playing against.

Great video.Nate was an elite center (top 10 easily)but an unsung hero. Thanks to you for highlighting his career. It's always good to celebrate players like him because some basketball lovers tend to forget rebound and defense are pure gold!

Great video, fitting tribute to the man. Also, a little extra trivia. Nate is now recognised as one of the strongest players to ever play in the NBA. His strength was said to have been incredible.

Nate the Great made the first official quadruple double in NBA history because the league were too lazy to add blocks before the 1973-74 season that became official.

Nate was a combination of Russell and Chamberlain. He could rebound AND score where Russell was only a rebounder and shot blocker. Nate is the only player to hold Wilt to 0 points in a game. Nate played Kareem very well. Yes, Nate is a forgotten player, but not by those who saw him play.

Keep in mind that Wilt did not attempt a shot in that game. It wasn't Nate's great defense (though he was a great defender); it was just Wilt going completely out of his way to try the lead the league in assists. The 76ers won that game against Nate's Warriors

One of the truly dumb movies ever made in the NBA was trading Wilt to Philly. Can you imagine a team of Wilt, Nate and Barry?

Nice and informative video. I would like to add at 5:23, his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers was slightly more eventful than you state in your video. Nate Thurmond helped the franchise make their first playoff appearance in which they won a Game 7 against the Washington Bullets (a team which lost in the Finals the previous year). It is known as "the Miracle of Richfield". Also, he grew up in Akron, Ohio, so it was also a return to home for him.
