I actually wish more games like this. I can totally play games like Too Many Bones and Atlantis Rising that have no connection to apps or contextual music or sound effects. But I REALLY love games like this that music and narration happens as you are playing the game. This game and games like Mansions of Madness.

Totally agree with you! I also like the trend toward Forteller and other apps that let you play narration and music during gameplay, for a bunch of games.

@@OneStopCoopShop I think you and I discussed this before (or someone else from the channel?) But I complimented your sound effects in your Robinson Crusoe playthrough wishing it was really in the game. Buying Forteller naration was the first thing I did after I bought jaws of the lion.

What's your feeling on emergent storytelling from actions that happen in the game?
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
I think the possibility is KIND OF there, but since they have narration/written story for almost every action you can do (besides generic ones like firing a cannon), for us that actually went against emergent narrative, because the game was already providing so much specific story.
@PeterEsquire4 жыл бұрын
Having played several games, it's mostly set story but there are some great emergent stories that come up, like you'd expect from the RPG elements. There have always been a few really memorable moments from roleplaying or a critical dice roll. We had a game where a character was really proficient at a skill and did this huge feat several times in a row by crushing a few rolls, it gave him in game infamy but also we got hyped from him as players, chanting his name.

Just my opinion, but since there is a halfway point save in the middle (a scenario is about 4 hours), I would say this has more like 10 plays instead of 5.
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
I think that’s a great point! None of our games took that long, but with 4+ players they were 3 hours for sure.

Did you roleplay as your pirate? (Giving them a "voice" different from your own)
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
We did that a bit, but for some reason my groups tend to save that for our actual RPG sessions, and we shut it off for board games, even those with RPG elements.

Very disappointed that you had no ship puns at the beginning, and went with "rise about the rest"

@@OneStopCoopShop that you'd have to be humorous on top of everything else you do is asking quite a bit But it is fun to pretend to be an over-the-top portrayal of a pirate

How good is the game for its mechanics. So mostly talking about decision making, strategy, tactics, mechanics. Or is it more of a story thing where the story creates the experience and keeps all of it together?
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
Like I said in the review, the core mechanic of choosing actions and rolling dice is pretty basic, and can get repetitive. I would not call this a highly tactical or strategic game. If you don't think your group will get into the story, it's probably not worth your money.
@lokihve65914 жыл бұрын
@@OneStopCoopShop They would, but it is a matter of picking between hundreds of games and having hundreds of games. So the only reason this one would be there is maybe because it has a different theme. Otherwise, I feel plenty of better story games out there by the looks of it. It is simple as that.

This game is really something special :) I love the mix of personal and group storytelling. Though it suffers at a low or high player count, I definitely would only play with 4-5 others like you mentioned! Its a light game that I wouldn't play more than once for each scenario. But overall It's been awhile since I've found a game that kind of came out of nowhere, surprised me and I enjoyed as much as this one!
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
Totally agree, Natanel. If you can get a good group together, it’s a total blast.

It's obviously a minority opinion (based on forums and reviews) but my family (9 year old, me, wife) disliked it. I didn't care for the silly humor (and grew annoyed by the voice over) and really hated the constellation mechanic. I'm pretty picky about games so I wasn't too surprised that another game missed the mark for me, but my son usually likes everything and he didn't care for it either.
@OneStopCoopShop4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear it Kenny! With some groups we preferred to read out loud instead of using the voiceover. And I agree the constellation mechanic is a bit wonky at times. Might as well just have an XP track instead or something similar, though it wouldn't be as pretty :)
