Well I'm sure B&T will do it *for a price* . Custom work, custom price. Then again upon buying from swiss maker in the first place, customer world's most hurting for money organization. If you just want an SMG, there will be way cheaper options. However many police agencies don't want "just an SMG". They want an accurate pistol carbine, that also on rare occasion of being needed can do full automatic fire. Since for most police agencies it's the GIGN kind of mentality (GIGN is after all police organization) "You do it with one shot, good, two shots, acceptable, three shots, now you are shooting too much". Multiple criminals? Bring in enough troops and entry points, that each criminal has designated point troop to handle. Each shot for police is one extra chance of richochet hitting bystander, hostage or other police officer and so on. Hence "we want closed bolt fire arm with accurate first shot. Since upon everything going to intervention plan, first shot is only shot. (after the most optimal plan not working out, no shots at all criminal surrenders or is detained) ". Sooo custom work and accuracy bonus is in the budget then. Plus not like couple thousand per firearm extra is that much compared to say the person carrying that carbine took 3 years to train before even becoming police officer and government paid for their housing, feeding and schooling for those 3 years. Plus on going salary. Not to mention with tier 1s one is talking probably a decade trained and experienced trooper.

In this case it largely is caused by the use of an extrusion and the plastic lower. It makes a lot of the customizations cheap and easy to accomplice. A gun with a milled receiver or made from multiple stampings welded together will be more expensive to modify.

Except they realy won't. H&K will never go out of buisness by the sheer fact how important it is to the german military industry. You'll also never see Rheinmetall,KMW or Zeiss go out of buisness. Aside from that noone is realy buying this. I mean i get it the US contract but matter of fact is most smg's nowadays are in police use and in most countries where the police isn't as militarised as it is in the US and where 9mm smg's are good enough to do the demanded job being able to put a light and a red dot on a gun is all they need and the MP5 and MP5K provide that. Nothing will replace the MP5 in most police stations around europe unless criminals get easy access to body armor all around the world requiring bigger guns in police hands or when the tooling at H&K gets to the point where they physically cant make more mp5s and have to stop supporting it.

@@dscrappylocogolani9555 It was actually my first SMG that i shot ever. Being a big guy it did feel a little short with the original barrel length, could be a few inches longer. But shooting it it felt so smooth and easy, almost like having a cheatcode. 25 meters and it just stayed on shooting fairly tight groups in a bit faster pace with the red dot it came with from the factory. It was still so new that the magazine button was super stiff to use. It's not cheap but worth it if you looking for a great SMG. And that you now can pick and choose a specific lower just adds to it.

I love my apc9 pro. It is very smooth and lets you stay on target. The hydraulic buffer is great. I would also strongly consider the apc10 10mm. I haven’t shot it but it is considered ‘better’ by TFBTV. They have a great video about it. SGM tactical makes a 30 round 10mm magazine. Ruger packages these with their LCP 10mm carbine. The best part is it is your money and your choice. Buy whatever tickles your fancy. Also thanks to EM for making this great video.

I can say that I'm thoroughly impressed with the engineering, various design options, and modularity that's available for this firearm. What has impressed me the most though, is the company's willingness to, not only consider customer's ideas for a specific build that isn't currently available, but will take the time to work with the customer to complete their order! It is quite rare for any company to alter their manufacturing process more than once every few years, if at all. It takes a lot of time and money whenever you make changes to the manufacturing process. First you need to design alternate versions, create new blueprints for each version, design, create and perfect new molds for each version, and perform all of the trial and error research needed to obtain a quality product, that the manufacturer and customer approves of. Talk about customer service! This company f'n rocks! Cheers

That's because of the costs of casting and milling steel. Even casting different plastic parts has a large cost in the design of the molds, even before paying for the casting machines or molds to be built. Lots of engineering dollars and trial-and-error. Obviously, Bruget & Thomet have some very skilled engineering people who have figured out a way to beat that casting problem, and the extruded receiver is insanely expensive to set-up but makes all of these other changes easy.

Of course, for “shareholder value” they will call it “AI”, but it’s really just rudimentary pattern recognition for user convenience.

Regarding hydraulic buffer reliability, I worked for the company that supplied the US Navy with the hydraulic buffers used on the M2 .50 Cal. shipboard soft-mounts. In spent a week at Crane NSWC getting the orifices for the dual M2 soft-mounts dialed in and also worked on the internal hydraulic buffer on the H&K G11. Also, for any residual worried about hydraulic buffers and practical lifespans on weapons systems, how many issues do you have with your car shock absorbers?

@ nah I think a lot of people not very technically inclined will read that and think ‘ooh nah nvm I don’t wanna replace a buffer every couple years’ but that’s not the truth. Very few people will every use one of these enough to wear out one of those buffers, most of the other parts would long get swapped out before that buffer failed according to what Ian is saying, 150k is a lot. Half right half wrong comparison imo

I’m so glad I got my APC when getting a more serious 9mm PCC/subgun to build out. It’s been such a great shooter, both suppressed and unsuppressed. Always makes me happy when I take it with to the range. Also, one point to B&T vs HK, B&T actually cares about their customers and gives the people what they want vs HK that just gives the people some table scraps and nothing more.

Many people have said this is currently the best SMG on the market, with the Pro model fitted with the telescoping buttstock loved by many including me. The Hydraulic buffer is also used by FN to great effect for recoil mitigation and bolt control and it certainly looks like they were onto a good idea. When HK released the UMP the writing was already on the wall for the MP5 with guns like the ACP-9 the final nail in the venerable MP5's coffin. Welcome to the future !!!!! Someone can program the machines to make the parts but it still takes a human to come up with the designs. 😎🇦🇺👍

In Canada , we can buy all the barrel length semi- auto variants with OEM or aftermarket stocks. I have 6.9” GHM9 w/ folding stock and a SPC with a milspec AR buffer tube and adjustable stock. The 18.7 “ versions of the APC/GHM9 /SPC were issued in Canada as non-restricted variants for those without a restricted license or for ease of purchase and transport. The SBR versions ( under 18.6” in Canada ) require a restricted RPAL license, an RCMP issued registration certificate and added regulations on transport, storage and can only be fired at a licensed range. Mine have been 100% reliable - but the SPC in particular gets really dirty which is a downside of the blowback operation .

I was once lucky to be at the range one day and a guy was there with his full-auto MP5. We got along well immediately and he offered me up a magazine worth of fun. It was a great bit of fun but I could tell it could be a cantankerous piece of kit if it wanted to be like that. He tried out a mag of my reloads as well and was very happy with them. So much that he cleared me out of what I had with me of my bulk loads. 😊 At some point I want to try out a B&T. Dangerous proposition as that is how I became a CZ guy just because I got curious about their pistols after I had bought my 452 Ultra Lux.

As an amateur gun designer, I wanted to design a lower receiver for the HK33 that used the AR magazine and AR trigger assembly and special bolt catch of course. During this process, a few revisions were required on the barrel trunnion and sheet metal body, but since I did not have the HK33 CAD designs, I could not do anything, but B&T would consider doing something about this, I presented my idea, the rest is up to B&T.

I purchased an APC9K Pro earlier this year and it is absolutely awesome. I also bought a Dead Air Wolfman for it with the tri-lug hub adapter. With subs, it functions flawlessly and is crazy quiet. It sounds like a staple gun. I can’t recommend it enough.

Need one of these that takes 10mm magnum double-stack HK mags for personal use with that sig p320 grip for the trigger assembly for personal, sporting use. Would be nice if the barrel were a bit longer and really no need for the lever release for that vertical . Love that M-LOK is built directly into the handguard, with rails screw fastened to the hand guard. Should be the industry standard.

3:27 is actually not true. The lower receiver is also serialized. There is a plaque with the serial number on the underside of the magwell, between the mag and the trigger guard. You can see it in the video at 4:19. It HAS to be serialized anyway, due to its availability as semi-auto or select-fire version and their corresponding differences in the trigger group!

Anyone that thinks the hydraulic buffer will not be dependable has no idea how many miles and how much abuse the hydraulic shocks on their cars and trucks take before they fail. Ian goes on to state that the initial design was iterated on and improved, and once a standard is set after lots of testing, these very dependable parts can easily have a service regimen attached to them so that every XYZ number of rounds the part is replaced no matter its condition. This is the same way that even auto manufacturers have a recommended maintenance schedule on their parts, let alone how the military also sets required maintenance schedules on all the parts for their vehicles, including helicopters and airplanes which can’t just pull over to the side of the road if something fails.

Thanks for a great look at a very interesting gun Ian. Having designed an airsoft gun using an extrusion, I would say that one of the biggest advantages of designing with a major extrusion is a big reduction in tooling costs. Tooling costs for steel stamping dies can be quite high and they take a while to rework until they give you well stamped parts. Extrusion dies are comparatively quite cheap. Like $1000 bucks cheap, generally with very little need for rework cycles. The costs of machining aluminum have become quite economical. Aluminum cuts fast and cutting tool life on carbide tools is excellent. Also, on the R&D side: if you can think in prismatic extruded shapes, it also turns out that making proof of concept prototypes is easier. Making the general shape of the interior is generally easier than making complicated 3d shapes that are common with stamped steel. Also the stiffness of thicker walled extruded parts easily makes light rigid forms that aren't as springy as stamped steel. From a manufacturing standpoint, extruded forms provide excellent utility for firearms.

I dislike the glock mag release. I upgraded to a lingle aluminum lower that uses Scorpion magazines. I use an Elftman single stage trigger, forward controls design q shaped short throw safety, a stock after it became an SBR, and lastly, an HK style forward grip. It suppresses well, uses magpul Scorpion mags, and is a joy to shoot.

A bolt hold open/release are hugely important on a PDW. I love the MP5 but reloading is too slow and cumbersome. This is a much improved system.

The APC9 is B&T's perfect example of a high-quality gun produced by a respectable company: design a gun that is highly modular and customizable and giving the customers what they want regardless of their tastes. The fact the Brumer was basically an MP5 fan and decided to develop his own versatile answer to HK's signature smg helps a lot. This is what a customer service should stand for, providing your customers with high-quality products that can be easily adaptable to their tastes.

I know an armorer from a police unit that fielded this gun and apparentely they aren't so happy with it. Seems like the hydraulic buffer wears out much faster than promised when using the hotter police ammo.

I presume next would be the rifle they make. Not the first time Cobra was involved then. Iirc the now-ancient article from a croatian gun magazine, they asked from Glock to make them a machine pistol, and thus glock 18c was made(c was supposedly standing for "cobra", rather than "compensated"). Pretty well thought-out design they have here. The shorter newer gun shown could, with few changes, make a great warhammer bolt pistol look-alike. Regarding the hydraulic buffer, one could wonder if it's as effective as advertised, why not more gun makers use it(lazyness, cost or patenting issue perhaps). While we're at different offerings for apc, you could say mr Brugger and Thomet are much like late Mikhail Kalashnikov was - meaning, they both listen to their customers and make changes accordingly to the guns requested.

I compete with a B&T GHM9 up in Canada. Really like their gear, gonna have to get myself a longer PCC for world's in Alabama though, I choose the SBR version of the GHM, which ATF won't let through...

This firearms very much reminds me of the old mid 60s Walther MPL and MPK. The were originally made for the West Berlin Police in 9mm Ultra. In fact, this looks close enough to be called a clone.

up here in canada we have an 18.7 "match" which was a weird amalgamation of the pro lower and gen 1 upper. it seems it was a 2 or 3 run ordeal around 2020 which was then replaced by the spc9, that was a bit more fitting for Canadas requirement of 18.5"barrels on centerfire semi automatic rifles. the match had the handgaurd of the L model rifles which was ~ 9" where as the spc got the full length handguard of the sp9 sport. as unlike the apc9 the spc9 has interchangeable handguards . an interesting note is this barrel restriction is not applicable to rim fire or repeating arms

The APC and SPC9’s are my favorite pcc’s. They make a nice product and while I’ll always love the MP5 I’d rather have a B&T.
