Fork Seal job On Vstrom 650

My left fork seal was leaking so i had to do the fork seal. Not a difficult job, but takes forever, and hanging the bike up with straps isnt very fun.

You can wash the springs and internal components with kerosene and the blow them dry with compressed air before you wipe them down with a soft cloth for a thorough cleaning.

Thank you for this video :). I am wanting to replace the seals and the fork oil on my suzuki gladius. I believe the forks are similar, although if anyone can confirm either way then that would be good. In the manual for the gladius it says that you need to use a long t handle tool when removing the bolt from the bottom of the fork. I did see that you didn't. Is the tool necessary for this job? Thanks! No there wasn't much other than the dust seals. They come in a kit that include the washers needed. I usually replace all the washers in the process since i have the forks out.

forget about the tape... measurw the clinder, go to your local hardware shop and find yourself a PVC pipe with the external. diameter of the inner cylinder and use that as a ramming tool. Care should be taken to press correctly on the oil seal. You don't even have to ramm it in hard, because you only have to seat it on the bottom. Remember rule no. 1 of mechanical/electromechanical work : If it doesn't go in smoothly, most of the time you're doing it wrong.

I didnt get how the oil volume is been measured. How much do I need to put in?

Had to rewatch it because i forgot 150mm on the line and then measured it from the top down until it hit the oil. You fill to that capacity on both forks.

Unless you are doing a complete rebuild, it is unnecessary to remove that bottom bolt and disassemble everything just to replace the seals. And that bottom bolt is not always the easiest thing to break loose. Careful you don't bugger the head up.

DONT remove the bottom Allen Key unless you really want to disassemble the whole unit . Removing is not necessary for a simple oil and seal change. Otherwise you will need a special tool to reinstall the Allen Key. This video overlooks how to reinstall the bottom cylinder rod.

Nah... you don't need any special tool. If it freespins, one has to just install and tighten the top cap. It's stated even in the manual.

@@ihavecojones Yes thank I figured that after I posted. The compressed spring (once cap is installed) allows the allen key to be tightened.

Your previous clip (or is it future) on fork service was waaay better. In this clip you did a big mistake... you rushed and did not (show) pump(ing) out the air out of the oil submerged assembly. You really don't want to have air in there. Also... there is a very very crucial step while mounting the wheel back. The manual states that before tightening the wheel holding rod you should compress the suspension a few times to allow the entire assembly to center itself. It goes without saying that the bike needs to be on even ground... as even as possible. I reccomend anyone attempting this on their own to read the relevant sections in the service manual. It can be found for free alover the internet, it's a google search away. I don't want to be THAT GUY (and I don't mean harm, please understand, motorcycle suspension is not something to mess arround with willy nilly) but... this is sloppy and rushed, for the sake of newbies trying this for the first time, you should take down this clip. Again, please do understand my noble intentions, i mean no harm.
