Context for the name: In german a forklift is called Gabelstapler literally translated "fork stacker". So the Stapler part of the name is derived from that and it would be roughly translated as stackers cup *flies away*

We needed someone like that when I worked at the airport for Delta. My first week there I opened my truck door when all of sudden the shift lead came driving the forklift backward at full speed and tore the door off of it. Thankfully, it was the truck used to deliver freight to the terminal and not mine. The shift lead ran into the supervisor's office and started yelling that I had done it. Thankfully there were several people who saw it and told the truth. Plus, he wasn't supposed to be driving the forklift in that area to begin with. On another job the forklift operator was using a large forklift to move his car. When he hit a speedbump the car rolled forward off the forks and on to its roof. He was driving so fast that he drove the forklift halfway over it before he could stop. Good times!

The first time I got on a stand up forklift at a Sam's Club when I turned 18 my trainer placed a penny down on the ground and said if you can pick it up I'll certify you right now. I tried twice forwards, stared at it, lifted up a little bit and tilted down and backed up and flipped it onto the fork. He flipped out and said no one had ever done that before and he saw me think about it. He walked up front and got my certification started. He also let me keep the penny.

Forklift sports have been around awhile. In 1999, I was a volunteer judge for a Forklift Rodeo, with various race and precision events. I worked at the Basketball event, where drivers had to put the ball in the hoop using only the forks.
@Jonathan.D5 ай бұрын
They have these events for all kinds of equipment. There's one for bobcats that's cool. My favorite is the one for helicopter pilots who fly for the coastguard. In one event a pencil is taped to the skid and it has to be used to move things. They even sharpen the pencil by poking the end of it into an electric pencil sharpener. It boggles the mind!

I watched my coworker dump a 3 ton pallet of sheet metal earlier today. He was going forward a little too fast with the load about five feet in the air (instead of down by the ground) and the thing tipped forward when he hit the brakes. He pivoted forward on the front wheels at a nearly 45 degree angle until the pallet hit the floor and slid off, causing the forklift to crash back down hard enough to make the whole shop shake. Dude ended up okay thankfully. Our normal forklift went out for repairs two days ago, and the rental we're using has a center of gravity much further forward. Our normal forklift would have handled the maneuver he did just fine, but he was on autopilot.

We had a show called "Bet That" which was about the weirdest people with the weirdest talents and then celebrities like Bruce Springsteen betting on them. For example, one dude bet that he can drink water faster than a dog from a dog bowl. Someone bet, that he can sing O Sole Mio while being run over by a 15-tone vehicle. Ripping apart 15 telephone books in a minute. Having a dog separating trash. Climbing up 15 meters with a tractor. Blowing up a hot water bottle with your breath. Recognizing the color of a pencil via taste, while blindfolded. Building a tower of washing machines in 5 minutes. Smelling shit and recognizing the animal. ..That was one of the most successful formats in Germany.

No where near perfect NOW. Give it a year or three. Seriously, forklift drivers should start looking into advancements now if they don’t wanna get blindsided

auto forklifts always fail at the final challenge. None of them can get out and run 20 meters to the emergency stop button. What will they do when a coworker is getting crushed? Just watch it happen? Pathetic machines.

If you liked this you should see the Japan and China ones they stack wine glass as high as they can to see who can go the highest its amazing seeing way more precise touch with a forklift. They practiced for world records.

As a horrible forklift driver who should never be let near a vehicle but is still required to drive one almost daily, this made me mald with shame.

I’m a forklift operator at continental tire factory and we have many robot forklifts taking pallets from from to back and back to front of the factory. They aren’t really ai but they are

as a forklift operator, these are genuinely the most unimpressive stunts I could’ve expected from a forklift competition
@ArgyleDashwood5 ай бұрын
I agree, I've definitely done some crazier things and more precise things on a forklift. This is seemingly all balancing a load which isn't even a very practical skill since it's against all safety rules to have an unsecured load. I would like to see more precision placement and handling.

It's Germany, with some of the strictest working safety regulations, so I'm sure they're not allowed to do any stunts that might cause the lift to tip over, or lift anything too high or heavy that might fall on someone. So they ended up with a light load that's hard to balance on small obstacles.
@martincastaneda85745 ай бұрын
IDK, these seem like really light and uneven stacked loads. I find heavy items easier to move. It looks like a slight breeze could tip these over.

Love it only thing the competition committee clearly overlooked was not having the competitors doing a Pre-Op Check of the machine and at the end of the race plugging the machines back in and not leaving it in the aisles.
