This is footage from an overnight backpacking trip in an area called the "Forks of the Kern". The fishing was really good, I caught about 20 trout this day, approximately 10 of which are featured in this video. Thanks for watching!

All the people asking for handouts on where to go, figure it out! When everyone spot burns and flocks to those spots those spots lose their magic. He told you the river now go explore and find your own spot. And when you find yourself a honey hole of your own don't blast it youtube. Planters are one thing that's fine but wild trout populations especially in california are fragile and can only take so much angling pressure

How far up from the little kern crossing was this? Some areas looked familiar but others did not. I know that area pretty well. It is one of my favorite places on the planet. It will be amazing this year when it opens up after being closed for a couple of seasons.

Just saw this comment sorry! This is all right there near the confluence, some of the first footage is actually below, the rest is just about up to 1 mile up river from the crossing! Should be incredible fishing this year!

How far from the trailhead to the water on this one? Thanks for taking us along.
@JacobFinger3 жыл бұрын
From memory I think about 2.5- 3 miles until you connect with water!

Great video Jacob. This is on my bucket list but it has been closed due the fire we had up there. How far did you hike in from the parking lot? Thanks.
@JacobFinger2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I feel so fortunate to have had the chance to go before the fire, this was literally earlier in the summer before the fire! I believe the hike from the parking area is about 2.5 to 3 miles to get to the river, it is basically all downhill going in! It just is a pain hiking out because then it's all uphill haha! But yes, I want to go back as well! My dream is to hike on in to an area called Big Kern Lake, basically you can just follow the Kern River a long way into the wilderness and get into quite possibly the most remote "large river" in the country! Thanks for the comment!

@@JacobFinger Thank you so much Jacob! That sounds awesome. I need to do some research on the Big kern lake trip as well. Was little Kern crossing pretty simple? spring run off issues there?
@JacobFinger2 жыл бұрын
Yes very simple and straightforward, this was in mid to late July though so no spring runoff issues for me then!

Hey what trailhead? Any other info? Looks cool
@JacobFinger3 жыл бұрын
Hey, do a little research on "The Forks of the Kern", tons of great info out there regarding trailheads and such! It's a simple trip, a lot of elevation loss and gain for the short distance!

Id like to do a trip up there. Advice on where to go?
@JacobFinger3 жыл бұрын
Super simple hike in from the trailhead to this spot, about 2.5 miles in to where I camped. However, right now there is a fire in this area so I'm fairly certain it is unreachable/ closed off at the moment, hopefully you get a chance to go sometime!

Glad you ask those sort of questions. I can tell you're not one of those people that can care less and drag fish up on the rocks
