I asked to have my IRS tax refund Direct Deposited. Why would they mail it to me instead, even though all of the Direct Deposit account information was correct? I just received the paper check today...including interest.

I don't know, but in some software even if you have the direct deposit info filled out, you still have to check a box somewhere to indicate that you want it to be direct deposited. If that's not it, perhaps there was some error or electronic glitch. Just be glad you got it. Scammers get a lot of people's refunds. Apparently it is happening to other people as well: ttlc.intuit.com/community/after-you-file/discussion/i-set-up-direct-deposit-for-my-tax-return-why-is-the-irs-sending-me-a-check/00/708847

@@NonprofitTaxHelp I came back again to tell you that I re-checked what I did. I provided precisely the same information to the IRS this year as I did last year. Nothing different. Last year, the IRS direct-deposited the money. No problems. This year, they didn't. Also, the stimulus money was direct-deposited this year. So, they direct-deposited the stimulus money...but not the tax refund, despite having direct-deposited the tax refund last year with the identical account information having been provided to them. I wanted to tell you this because I believe you might be able to investigate this and get the word out more ably than I can. Please keep me informed about this if you explore this more deeply. Something is clearly amiss. This whole thing suggests a very serious systemic problem at the IRS.
