2013 Eaglehawk vs. 1986 Tomahawk Lift-Ticket G.I. Joe review

A review of the 2013 Eaglehawk helicopter and its pilot Lift-Ticket (and comparison to its predecessor - 1986 Tomahawk). The Eaglehawk is part of the GI Joe: Retaliation movie series and retails for $42.98 US ($44.99 CDN). *The rifle mentioned is an Isreali Galil MAR - not a Russian AK rifle. Which just raises the question, why does Lift-Ticket have an Isreali weapon?!*

When I store figures, the ones that are more prone to discoloring (white, lightblue & lightgreen plastic) I put a silica gel crystal pouch in with them. The silica crystals (you an get in pouch form at garden/flower shops - or in bulk at hardware stores) absorb moisture which contributes to damaging plastic. All my toys are stored or displayed in away from direct sunlight.

Hi, the gun is actually a Micro Galil, which is the Israeli AK design. Fabulous weapon. Great video!! Brings back lots of great memories of my Tomahawk!!

Hasbro still had the 1985 Moray Hydrofoil molds to make the Tiger Ray with. Most original vehicle molds were destroyed by Hasbro in 2009. Any mold based on a 1980-1990's vehicle has to be re-done by scratch. And yes, a new Killer Whale would be awesome - there aren't a lot of water-borne vehicles out there to compete with it, so it should sell.

I really hope more 80s vehicles get reissued with tweaks. I plan on getting the Eaglehawk soon. I'm not to fond that the modern Lift-Ticket doesn't have the same appearance as the 1986 version. I have a modern Lift-Ticket that looks much like the 1986 version. It came as a pilot with the 25th anniversary Ghost Hawk. I'll be using that as my main Eaglehawk pilot and then the Lift Ticket that actually comes with the Eaglehawk will serve as an unnamed co-pilot. I'd like to see the Mauler and the Night Raven (with Drone aircraft) get reissued.

This takes me back to Christmas 1989 when I got the Tomahawk. Took all morning to put it together! Great comparison vid. Based on this, I decided to buy the Eaglehawk, rather than trying to re-acquire the Tomahawk.

Vintage figures fit in the seats fine, they have a slight curve to keep them in (thats all that keeps the new figures in too). Modern footpegs are too small for vintage figures though.

On my eaglehawk there is a little knob that you can spin to access the back rotor. And yours has one too, I can literally see it at 14:05!

It can't be done for a convention or the Collectors Club, that make toys in limited numbers. The original molds for the toy are gone, so a new mold/casting has to get made first. It would have to be done by Hasbro as a retail item first. Then a convention or CC can make alternate colors from that (like Night Force or "vintage green" if the retail colors are different).

Wow man, I didn't know that you could use Road Block's accessories with that! I guess that's my morning project for today. The only thing I don't like about the new Eaglehawk is that figures don't stay in the seats very well. There's no pegs in the seats like the old version. I guess I'll have to ramshackle some seat-belts out of rubber-bands

I think the rifle is the Galil MAR 5.56mm, or Micro-Galil . If you search images of this rifle it looks jist like the figures rifle.

Your channel is actually a contributing factor to why I will never purchase an Eaglehawk. I'm back to being a vintage purist. With a 1986 Tomahawk in my collection I would only add the Eaglehawk if it was a superior toy. I don't supposed you'd think it was, right?

Great video, I just found the eagle hawk on Amazon. I'm introducing my boys to gi joe, and this will be their first vehicle.. The roadblock tip is great, it has caused me to find this figure.

Not really. I did it at 15:40 and the Tomahawk's clear canopy leaves a gap on the Eaglehawk's frame (the hinges don't secure anyway). The Eaglehawk's tinted canopy doesn't fit at all on the Tomahawk.

I love each of them. However, I believe I like the old Tomahawk better simply because I can remove the seats and most importantly the clear bubble. The bubble on the Eaglehawk is to dark and I can't see who is inside clearly. But, push comes to shove and price I would take either of them.

Hey Kevin , did you at the end during comparison put any vintage joes in the eaglehawk? Do the foot pegs even work with our old joe dudes? I like the look of this re-up and it so far is only vehicle made post vintage line that could earn serious kudos

Yes a release of a vehicle of a old vehicle. I knew of the Hiss make. Although it would seem Hasbro really has no interest in pursuing such interest in re-doing the retro vehicles. I'll check out the Vamp mkII

i was surprised to find g.ijoe figures at dollarama for about $3 each. they had snake eyes, storm shadow and roadblock. they looked very cheaply made but the packaging said hasbro.

Did you mean new release/update of an old vehicle? I haven't heard anything lately. If you mean all new vehicle (which would be only compatible with the modern figures) the all-black HISS tank V5 and the new VAMP mkII from the Pursuit of Cobra line.

many international drivers and pilots use small arms different from standard weaponry, for closed spaces, maybe that's why the foreign weapon? Same as the suits are mostly one coloured with pilots, engineers or loadmasters.

I like they keep the design the same .... but the holes were the screws on the newer eagle hawk is a let down looks like big bullets holes... they should keep smooth like the original design that was lock in with clips

Probably one to two days after Christmas I dropped my Tomahawk from the top of some bleachers and broke off all the rotors from the back set. I guess that's what I get from taking it out somewhere.

Great Video, The Tomahawk is my favorite GI Joe vehicle. Have always loved Helicopters. Like the additions to the new one with the roadblock and his assessors he has that go with it.

The blueprints call them bombs (but they do look like missiles). The 1990 Retaliator and Locust also carried both bombs and missiles. Oddly enough, the 1992 Desert Apache (I think that's what you're describing) came with two types of missile but no bombs.

The early driver figures of the Retaliation line had limited articulation as a cost saving move (Hiss tank, Fangboat, Ninja Cruiser, Ninja 4x4, Ghost Hawk & Tread Ripper were the early series). After fans complained about the figures, Hasbro promised to release drivers with full articulation in the second series. But the Eaglehawk is the only second series Retaliation vehicle.

The squeaky wheel gets removed.. lol saving more I heard that too, but who saved anything, im sure the cost to cost comparison(basic articulation vs. Full on articulation) is menial, it would think that hasbro had started to suffer from whoring itself out to the advertising business. Maybe hasbro dismantles the joe design group because they can just build a 3d rendering of a character instead of sculpt. Send the data to a manufacturer in china and run...but full articulation is what joe is and was about. G.i joe. Full articulation is a must, if we have to pay a little more, then so be it!!
