Absolutely loved this match, especially its psychological warfare aspect. Truly amazing to see the "Mind over Matter" strength of Scott. If I had missed the part where Scott mentioned his elbow challenge, I wouldn't even know that there was an issue facing him. What a great player! Alex was great and truly classy about his approach at a very high sportsmanship level. Last but not least let us be grateful for the Essential Tennis team and their continued upkeep of content, video and editing quality. If anyone is reading this and hasn't subscribed, please do so...you'll learn a great deal about tennis, strategies and many others while being entertained as well. Cheers.

I think there can be and should be some collaboration and synergy between Essential Tennis and Tennis Troll - referencing Scotts T-shirt and comments at the end. I 'know' there is competition, but both platforms are enjoyable to the regular Joe tennis player trying to improve. And...both platforms can cause the 'Water to Rise', and we all know, when the 'Water Rises', all boats rise with the water. I've been playing 25+ years and had to use video and books to retools my game multiple times with the changes in the game and technology. I have never seen content like the recent developments - the spirit, the attitude, all of it. It's absolutely refreshing. Use collaboration and positive synergy to move this all forward. I don't know what to call 'it', but 'it' is great and I watch this content now, instead of professional tennis on TV. That's freaking crazy.

HUGE mistake by Alex at 10:16 and 15:45. When you have a sitter (or overhead) and you see your opponent (Scott) approach the net, you HIT him at the body! Obviously, you don't want to hurt him, but this tells me that Scott has no respect for Alex's power or game for that matter. At times, you have to send a message (friend or no friend). I like Alex's game and hustle, but these poor decisions tell the whole story. When a person approaches the net on your SITTER, you have to hit him, and you hit him HARD. Great video! 👍

There’s actually a backstory with me and Alex about this. He tagged me (hard) with an overhead playing doubles once, and I half-jokingly gave him my best “we-are-going-to-fight-now” face. He’s such a nice guy I still feel a little bad about it, but I used that as a psychological ploy in the match.

Scott is an inspiration. Wisdom and control of self (most of the time). Love it. So much to learn from him. Congrats to Scott and also to ET for continued highly engaging content! My request: I would like to see Scott over-matched and outplayed. What does that guy (or girl) look like? What does he or she do? How does he or she play? The diary room moments between games have been very engaging. I was always against vlogging in between games. Still don’t want it in the atp with slams. Just leave that magic. People also ought to be able to imagine empathetically. I’m an old dog that way. Don’t need to have Roger and Rafa etc bothered by this entertainment influence; let them struggle alone, let their main focus be on amazing play, instead of making it more business entertainment influencer promotions. But in this context with moderate to high level amateur play, I absolutely love it. It’s really revealing. Immersive.

@@EssentialTennis Sure, but in professional tennis, the video diary would become a selection pressure. If that becomes part of the structure of the game, it means introvert internally reflective people will struggle, regardless of their playing ability. I'd say that will weed out some of the quality players. Rather I'm very happy to see video diary on amateur level, as it makes tennis more accessible to people and makes audiences more able to understand and love professional play.

That was definitely a momentum shift! The best way of going about this is NOT to forget. I think when we "force" ourselves to "forget" it backfires and we end up reliving it more strongly. The key is to make each point its own story. For instance, the original Star Wars movie trilogy was set up in 3 parts (New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi). Each movie was its own story but it did have the same heroes and characters. Same thing with a tennis match. Each point has it's own story - with a different plot and conclusion. It's up to you what that story will be. Hope that helps!

My opinion: the match is great as usual, congrats about that. Now, my critical opinion about the format: I personally would prefer a solo tennis video. I don't like the continuous stops for comments. They would be fine if they are comments in the background, without interruptions. Please, take my comment positively, your videos are great.

Well done! I don't know what the issue is with Scott's elbow. I presume tennis elbow. I'd be interested to get his take on it. One problem could be the stiff racquet. I have a repaired shoulder and I have had good luck with more flexible frames and lower string tensions. No co poly either, or maybe a co poly, multi hybrid at 45lbs. and 48lbs. With the multi in the mains. Good tennis, Scott.

Sideline observations on Alex's FH: Thinking he could look to improve the stability and swing path of that. Unit turn and take back seem better/quicker on the BH side (which looked nice). More ready and stable on that side for each shot. This seems to then lead to a rushed/hectic shot on the FH side. And the swing with the take back perhaps could be a little more loopy, the racquet brought back slightly more higher and vertical, allowing it to then drop as you swing to create racquet head speed in a more seamless motion (look at Scott). Now it seems a little closer to a pendulum type motion instead of a loop, which again I reckon may lead to a less stable swing. If he could improve that wing, would be a nice boost to an already good overall game.

I’d be glad to! Right now, I’m not on any strict regimen, but I do have some regular things I try to do. I make a point to run 3 days a week, anywhere between 3.5 to 6 miles at a time; I’ll vary paces, and sometimes I’ll do intervals of 400 or 800 meters at a race pace. I also hit the gym several times every week, focusing primarily on core and upper body stuff some days and legs on others (I have been getting a little more serious about legs since having arthroscopic surgery on my left knee). Nothing huge, just reps and occasionally a reality check on the bench to see if I’m delusional about things 😬. I do a bit of hiking when the weather is amenable, too; I have a 6-year-old son who loves to go on walks (and bike and play tennis and and and). And of course, I work at a tennis club, so I get plenty of on-court time. Hope that helps!

i think its really great , i have only one suggestion, when you guys stop to talk instead of cutting, i think it might be better just to do a split screen or just a mini screen box of you guys talking while we can still see whats going on the court, because it breaks the momentum of the video beside that , good work cheers

Scott is so sound fundamentally. Alex's weakness is definitely his forehand. He can't flatten it out and change direction due to the mechanic. The loopy ball trajectory just sit up for Scott to hit winner.
@Jackripster69
@Jackripster69 3 жыл бұрын
I was going to say the same thing. From early on i thought Scott should just be going all out forehand to forehand. Alex can fix it easy though imo, watch the loading of his legs - he pivots around his left rather than exploding up and towards the ball with the right. Thats why they're loopy.

A true D1 hits like 6.0 like a machine from the ground and serves bombs, no breaks. Scott was never off balance, always in the middle of his body on swing, Alex was on the run playing defense off of his heals.

was thinking the same.. totally the wrong racket for Scot. Maybe he should go for a clash 98. Much more flex/ softer for the arm, good spin and not much difference in control I think.

@@LarzB Yeah exactly. Clash is king for arm comfort. New Yonex V Core's meant to be lot like Aero but much less harsh

@@JohnScott9000 i have a clash 98, clash 100, ezone 98 (2020), vcore pro 97, pro staff 97, head extreme tour 98. Pinpoint control the clash 98 is similar to the extreme tour in control. Both the 97 rackets have the most control, but also noticable less spin. Ezone 98 little bit in between. If you're used to a babolat aero, but want a more flexible racket with good spin, ok power and similar control, then i would say the clash 98. For more power and control, less spin, the ezone 98. But that racket can also be tough on the arm, so that is not such an improvement in flex. Of the non clash rackets the vcore pro 97 has the best flex for the arm, followed by head extreme tour. Compared to my collection

Scott might be the old man but he is also the more experienced... He approached the net EVERY time Alex was in distress. Scott played clean when his arm started hurting, then he pushed back when Alex started making mistakes and he stayed clean but added one notch of aggression to get him through... That's what makes tennis great, it's not over til it's over...

It is painful to watch this guy Alex play. He got pushed around by Scott's forehand and running side to side saving desperate balls which Scott mostly finished up at the net. Alex got hard serves, but the serves are not accurate enough for aces or winners. A good player like Scott returned most of these hard serves, then where as good players with at least a good attacking forehand can do a 1-2 combo off the serve...Alex's infamous Gasquet forehand would land short in the middle of the court to be punished by Scott putting Alex on the run again and again and again...Alex need to spend a couple of hours each day at the wall working on his 3.5 forehand. Good job, Scott...always a joy to see Scott play.
