@@dzcav3 Since my last comment I have learned that gasoline/diesel vehicles rarely explode, which EVs also very rarely explode. Gasoline/diesel vehicles catch fire about 20 times more often than EVs. As far as I know gasoline cars burn faster than EV fires. EV fires does burn fiercely for a long time and can reignite even after days. The bottom line is that EVs are not more dangerous than gasoline/diesel cars.

The type of hybrid that solves a lot of problems is the SERIAL, plug-in hybrid. It works somewhat like a modern diesel-electric train locomotive. It has a purely electric drive train with a commuter-size (~40 miles) battery, which allows it to use regenerative braking. The combustion engine primarily runs an electric generator to charge the battery, but also provides cabin heat in very cold weather. This setup provides simple controls, and eliminates the cost, complexity, size, and weight of the mechanical transmission. It gives the flexibility to drive primarily electric in daily driving, and also allows for unlimited gasoline driving for long trips.

It's always nice to see Bob, but his reasoning is wrong. Once the demand for better batteries was established, soo many companies have developed better and better battery and electric motor technology, and now they are good enough to replace ice cars completely! It's really an exciting time and we haven't seen anything yet! The Bev's of today are where ice was in the 1920's, over the coming decades there is no limit to their improvements, just like ice cars had for the last 100 years! But they are starting with all the improvements of the modern car. Petrol and diesel has no more real development left! it's been done, like classical music there is only so much you can do. In another century maybe Bev's will get replaced by something better like electrostatic drive and tapping into universal free energy? But In the meantime Bev's are today's rulers of the road.
