The concussion protocols are a joke. You can play an entire career without getting a serious concussion and you can still get a serious case of CTE from the hundreds/thousands of the lesser impacts to your helmet. Anything that imparts G-forces to your brain will cause damage.

No conventional scans can diagnose CTE. At this point their is no way to be absolutely certain until an autopsy is performed and brain tissue is studied, and it isn't an inexpensive process, even posthumously. They're working on a way to definitively diagnose it before death, but we're not there yet. If you suspect that you may have it, then definitely be forthcoming with your doctor. It shares alot in common with other degenerative brain disorders, but many other brain disorders can be identified before death. CTE cannot. Your age can play a factor is the seriousness of the symptoms, because the disorder has multiple stages that progress and worsen over time. If you do have it, then it's possible you're only in the first stage. Keep a very close eye on your symptoms man, that is especially troubling to hear from someone who didn't even play in the college or pro level.. The thought that it could occur in people who have only played up until HS is scary.

Definately thinking the chance i get it when im older is pretty high playing rugby football and wrestling... way too many concussions just not worth it. Dads 53 and i can see something starting to happen to him maybe a milder form but god its fucked to think about

I only played 7 years middle school and HS, and I feel like I'm severely depressed, angry and anxious at times for no reason at all. It's like a wave that takes over my mind. It comes and goes. Then I feel normal for a while. My memory is showing signs of going a bit. I'm 30 years now and wondering if all those "dingers" from helmet to helmet collisions did some damage.

There’s a big issue with dementia in ex footballers ( soccer) here in the UK as well, in an average career a footballer will head a ball thousands of times, famous ex footballers are getting dementia in their droves, action has to be taken. There’s also issues in Rugby as well, I dare say all forms of football have the same issues. Action must be taken to limit this.

I'd agree that every player has brain damage--many of which will become Parkinson's, dementia, ALS, suicidal depression or other horrid outcomes one day. Sometimes it's static damage that causes a single decline in functioning--other times it's the progressive, fatal CTE type. Both are awful & 100% preventable by not taking hits to the head in sports.

Its not just by taking hits to the head its also.being tackled or hit in the torso that cause the brain to smash up against your skull that can cause cte so basically if your constantly being slammed you can probably get it too.

I think in the coming decades they are going to have to modify a lot of sports and create new ones to avoid CTE, as with more and more evidence no one is going to want their kids playing these sports, nor are teens or young adults.

I wish everyone the best with this. I'll share how I treated my potential issues aggressively at the end of my College Football career. The brain is plastic and can heal. Learn to Fast for extended periods of time (provides clarity, reduces inflammation and fat adaption which is good for brain health). Research the Ketogenic Diet, which was originally developed to treat people with brain ailments. Continue to exercise your brain by learning a new language and new things in life. Learn to use the opposite hand for things and try new exercise modalities that focus on form and alignment like Yoga and Mobility work (the bending resets the Vestibular System). Research each of these things. I no longer have memory or mood issues. I also had success with Holosync Brainwave Entrainment, meditation, and practice Zen mediation daily now. I hope that helps, it worked for me. Peace y'all.

Iv been in football for 3 years (late 21to late 24), iv'e had like overall 9.5-10 months of contact with no massive injuries. throughout this time. Im moving on after winning a title, and playing a whole season with another team. The only major injury i had was at a flag workout. When a teammate accidently stepped over my upper front teeth with cleats. At the hospital i was cleared of head injury (via ct) probably due to me being already lying on the turf at impact. I passed out due to pain, waking somewhere between seconds to a minute afterwards, with my shirt filled with mu blood. Afterward went to the hospital. Im probably not concussed since it was almost a month ago and no symptoms where shown. But with that trauma its cleared that playing is over for me, and i rather move away healthy.

Matt Beeman If Quarterbacks do have CTE then it is 1 out of every 5 quarterbacks QB’s mostly get tackled or pushed down sure it will have an effect on their bodies later on in life but not their heads the way quarterback are hit is nothing compared to a running back getting tackled by 3 players at the same time or a lineman getting hit in the head every down by a defensive lineman’s helmet
