She showed who she was on 1 show I watched when on camera 1 of her male staff did something which appeared so innocuous that I don't even remember what it was. She went mad at him and kept going on about it. At first I thought she was kidding around until I realized she wasn't. The male staff member just remained silent and one could see he was accustomed to this treatment.

I went to her show once, and it was horrible. My brother, who passed away a few years ago, had a few heath issues, and they sat us all the way in the back and to the side so we wouldn't show. He fought bullying all his life, and they made him feel the worst they had ever felt. Before the show, they made 2 lines, and since I had gone to the restroom a few minutes before, we got in the wrong line. Her staff told everyone in that line that they were chosen because they were the cool kinds with good energy. When they saw us they rolled their eyes and told us to go back with everyone else in the other group 😢. One of my biggest regrets after my brother's passing was that I took him there. She is a monster!!

My best friend's son-in-law works lighting on tv shows. We were at their house one morning (5 years ago) when his boss called looking for someone to work Ellen's show that day. The lighting guys had had enough of her and walked off. He said NOPE, not me. Been there, done that. When he got off the phone he started telling stories of her toxic work environment. It was crazy.

A friend of mine worked on the studio lot where they filmed her talk show; he wasn’t even part of that specific crew, but he would always mention how anytime she would walk by he could not look at her or speak to her. He was told to look down every time he was in her presence. He was thankful he never had to work directly for her or that show.

I took a writing course in nyc about 5 years ago, someone younger than me worked as a golf course one sunmer where Ellen was at one time. He drove her on the buggy car, and apparently refused to acknowledge his existence or look at him despite him driving her 5 minutes across the course in a tight space. This was years before she got cancelled. he told the entire class this story, so wasnt surprised when all this came out

I worked in Hollywood for almost 20 years and have several friends who worked on DeGeneres' show. They all told me it was a very toxic environment. One very weird rule for crew members was they were required that each and every time she walked on set the crew had to applaud. I also have several friends that quit working on the show because it was such a negative environment.

A former coworker of mine at a food company got to go to LA to deliver product that Ellen was debuting on her show. It was one of our company's new snack items. Since my coworker brokered this marketing promotion and got to be the ambassador, she was all excited, anticipating that she would get to meet Ellen. As this woman stood in a corridor that Ellen was going to be walking through to get to the stage, one of her team told my coworker to not make eye contact, look at her or even try to speak to Ellen. It is absolutely true. What a phony wretch.

I worked her show and, amongst many things, was told that Ellen would fire anyone who made eye contact with her. EYE CONTACT!!! So much fear on her set.

The first time I believed her. I was proud of her landing that show and felt she deserved it. I had a family member whose brother worked on the set. He actually left because of the negativity. I can’t imagine anyone walking away from such a good job. He just couldn’t handle it. To hear her complaining she was shunned yet again after all these stories is an eye roll. I used to be a big fan of Ellen many years ago....I stopped watching her talk show, though, when I saw how gleeful she became when she would deliberately frighten her guests with pranks that were not funny - they were cruel. I saw several people react in such a way that you just knew they were terrified, and the more frightened they were, the more she liked it. That's not behavior that's normal...it's actually sadistic. Ugh.

I lost respect for her when they invited a tour bus to her studio, and people were so excited to see her and she sprayed them with a Waterhose saying she's cooling them down in the heat all while laughing. She was absolutely a wretched boss. She flogged her writing staff unmercifully. Her writers laughed when she laughed because otherwise her mood would tank and she would start verbally flogging them. The idea sessions seem like they were made exceptionally rough because they were in a relatively small office and that closed in atmosphere seemed claustrophobic. One of the things I found most disingenuous about her was her she would bring kids on for the cuteness factor, but had a fairly strict "no kids on set" policy so she wouldn't have to interact with them that much except on camera.

I have zero knowledge of what went on and I barely followed that story but I will say that nice people, those who treat co-workers and employees with respect and dignity, don’t usually get accused of being abusive.

I'll go so far as to say almost no good employer gets accused of abuse, unless someone is trying to extort money. The two worst places I worked each had people in charge who didn't know what the fook they were doing, were moody and temperamental, and oblivious to their terrible people skills. Both should have had the title of "Mismanagers".

comedians deal with their issues through comedy, and famous one’s get to do it in a special. i’d say narcissistic tendencies come with the territory of stand up comedy, and fame. another comedian, mulaney, made a good point about the human condition and being worshipped for so long, can only alter someone’s perception of their reality.

From what I have read, it seems Ellen surrounded her with 'yes' people who had to agree with her and were afraid of her, and in turn she always felt like things were 'fine' because everyone around her accommodated for her every move. After years of this she probably was blind to the culture of the show.
