It's nice to enjoy k-pop & k-dramas but I hope people don't fall for the unrealistic dream of korea they portray. The reality is far from it, their society is judgemental very backward in thinking. They still hold stereotypes about diff races & treat people differently.

South east Asians are often mistreated and discriminated in east asian countries . But too be honest i find south east Asian to be most open minded , accepting and liberal as a society in whole Asia They should be proud of their traits and build their own creative entertainment industry instead of applying to cram schools 😂 in Korea or China ( trainee school ) . It's hilarious that for every career east asia build cram institute there which kills creativity there .

It took just one look to know this guy was scammed by cons. How? He is 100% not of Korean beauty standards. Absolutely no way. Whatever he was in his home country is his opinion but for sure he would have never ever gotten any legit contract by a legit agency. "Sexual harassment"? Sounds funny but whatever, why not name the agency and sue then? In any case, there are bad people all over the world. Kpop is not for everyone. Not trying to be mean but it's just fact. Look hard in the mirror, look hard at successful kpop idols, if you don't look anything like them, go find a different dream. And your voice, you're too short, sorry, just facts. Stay in your home country. it's for your own good. good luck.

But this is the reality even in Philippine showbiz only those who have connection in showbiz or have foreign blood usually get a chance to be a celebrity. We cant blame the country it's the industry around the world experience this and the actual person who have done this even Filipino are racist to koreans, chinese, Japan etc and I witness this too. However, in Korea, THEY EVEN FREAKING support the racist j£rks.* *It's just very shameful for an Asian country to market itself beautifully across the world only for it to be full of racist and disrespectful j£rks. agree, not every Korean is rude. this is my side of the story: I thought they were rude because of the language or cultural barriers, turned out that was not the case... they are just simply rude. this happened when my country held Asian Games 2018. I met a nice Korean lady, she lived in my country for years. we met because she kind of helped me to get an autograph from a famous football player (well, he plays overseas, so I assumed he will be more open-minded but no). He rejected me harshly and even gave me a scowled face (he saw my face and then just pushed my book away around 3 times, but whenever the Korean fans gave the merch or books, he smiled widely and chit-chatted and gave them selfies). The lady was mad when saw what happened and even scolded him in Korean, he then gave his autograph to me. she told me that she didn't get why he acted so highly toward me and even she said to think twice to let their kids idolize him again. today, I still remember how he treated me in 2018, and lost respect for him forever.

It's a reality, I think, that their culture tries to hide very well. At first, I was very fascinated and overwhelmed by their standards and style of living, but then again, as you go deeper you'll realize another side you didn't expect. At times, you feel the underlying discrimination about physical attributes or physical appearance, language barrier, social status, age difference, well, things like that. In our country, we usually don't mind about these things because it's generally toxic and ridiculous to treat or address a person according to skin color or age, for example, aside from experiencing explicit encounters that must be against any person's will. But this happens behind the curtains of K-pop, the way I observed it. I feel sorry for a fellow Filipino who almost lost his away just for chasing his dream in South Korea. I hope this teaches the others to be wary and be extra careful if they want to be successful abroad.

I have a cousin who is an assistant language teacher. He is half Filipino half British. His British heritage is more prominent on his appearance. He has been working as ALT in Japan for many years and decided to go to Korea due to higher salary they offered him. He went there but only for a few weeks and went back to Japan. I asked him why did he go back to Japan. He said the school gave him a chance to check the classes and mingle with the students. And from what he had seen, he did not like their attitude and the disrespect at all. Of course, what he had seen is only particular to that school and the students he met that time. Maybe the fact that school was for wealthier families played a factor. Also, when I was in college, there was this Korea exchange student. I don't know if she was being snobbish or shy. We tried to be friend her but she won't interact with us. When someone in the class tried to talk to her, she would just stare and then leave or ignore whoever was talking to her. We thought it could be language barrier she's worried of, but no! She speaks English well. And she only talks and goes out with her fellow Korean exchange student. She went back to Korea without interacting with anyone from the class. So far my only experience with a Korean was not good. I know that not all Koreans are like this, maybe one day I'll meet someone who is better.

It's still bad, but you can't tell people to know something about someone when their government actively keeps them from it. South Korean have access to the Internet and social media platforms. The entertainment and beauty industry is marketed worldwide to support a system that discriminates its customers. Looking at Korea's global success in the last decade they should've included proper classes in their educational system and make sure that everyone in their country feels safe and respected. My fellow Filipino, I understand that Ppop is slowly growing in the Philippines, but even we Filipinos do not support our own music. As a Filipino, you are aware of this, and besides, the Ppop industry in the Philippines is not fully supported by our government, whereas in South Korea, when they faced a crisis and saw an opportunity to succeed through music, they poured millions of dollars into the industry, and they even have a separate ministry dedicated solely to Kpop, which is why many of us filipino want to be Kpop Idol rather than Ppop idol. I also asked my friends in dance workshops because we train there to become great dancers and we all share the same dream of being able to become trainees in Korea and debut as an Idol there, and I asked if they were interested in debuting here in the Philippines, and they said no because Filipinos prefer to watch vloggers rather than Ppop idols, so it would be a waste of time if you debuted here. Maybe it's just their perspective, but I believe they are right since, despite the fact that they don't understand the lyrics of a song as well in Kpop as they do in Ppop, Filipinos still love Kpop songs, and I prefer to listen to kpop over ppop. I'm not sure why, but it is what it is. That is why my dance workshop friends said what they said.
@jero4321
@jero4321 2 жыл бұрын
@ZHU Yes, my other dance workshop classmate also advised me that joining a group that covers Kpop songs on KZbin is much preferable rather than debuting as a Ppop Idol. For example, look up Press Hit Play and even Kaia on KZbin; they are Ppop Idols. When you compare them to Alpha PH on KZbin, you'll notice that they are on par, and in some cases, Alpha PH outperforms these Ppop idols in terms of KZbin views because they dance to Kpop songs. For myself, I'd rather join Alpha Ph than debut as a Ppop idol. Yes, we have SB19 here in the Philippines, the ace in Ppop, and I'm a fan of them as well, but I believe that those streams that are present in SB19's videos are mostly filipinos. Please compare it to groups like Drippn, Ciipher, and Mirae, who have just recently debuted but have similar and even more views than SB19. This is because kpop is global and has a lot of global fans.

It is very difficult for non-East Asian people to blend into their culture what more become a KPOP idol. It will take 3 open-minded generations to change it. My advice to Filipinos is if you're not East Asian looking then don't dare dream of becoming a KPOP idol. It is better to build a South East Asian Pop genre. South East Asia could be a music power house too.

I’ve been a kpop fan since 2009-2010 and I don’t regret it. I met some amazing people I’m still friends w today and I have some groups that I’ll love until I die. But kpop began losing its magic as I got older and more aware of the world we live in. You begin to understand how difficult being an trainee and an idol is, how much they have to sacrifice for their job and fans, how much of what we see on screen is fake and scripted, how idols and their companies capitalize and profit off of a potentially dangerous bf/gf fantasy they shove down fans’ throats, how companies and the industry exploit young people, their dreams and talents. I’m not even going to get into the racism, sexism, fat-phobia, colorism, misogyny, cultural appropriation, fandom toxicity, etc. that goes on but, those are also reasons why I’ve kind of fell off the kpop stan train a few years ago. I used to idolize and idealize Korea and kpop idols but, please keep yourself grounded in reality. Don’t fall for the fantasy that these companies have created bc we’ve seen that these companies and even some of the idols that debut are not who they say they are. As much as I want to ignore the darker side of being a kpop fan and indulge in the catchy music, unique mvs and cool dances, I have to remember that that is doing a disservice to people like Alvin who have genuinely suffered under their system. We as kpop fans HAVE to talk about this, we have to be outraged bc if we aren’t, the conditions trainees and idols work in, what they have to endure from their company behind closed doors will never change. At the end of the day, it isn’t about you or the idols, it isn’t even about the music. It’s all about the money for them.

I've also experienced my fair share of sh*t interacting with that society and also have trauma. It's unjust and it needs to change. Foreigners and people from multicultural families need to be treated like actual human beings, not animals. I think interacting with Korean society opened my eyes up the widest to the importance of human rights and widespread education. I don't know you in real life, but please, don't blame yourself no matter what. You are a human being and deserve to be treated with basic dignity and respect. But if you dive into Thai's entertainment, you'll be amazed on how celebrities manage their lives (hell, I'm not even Thai but I like how they do things there).any actress, actors, singers, you name it, holds or is taking a college degree. Some of them are doctors, dentist, architects, engineers, pilot, stewardesses etc. Actors like Mew Suppasit and Up are studying PHD, others are on their way to getting masters. Point is, their family put priority to education, and if they have free time in between classes, they do other jobs. When entertainment is not working well, they still have their education to continue life with. Meanwhile, idols in korea, when they flopped, nothing is left.

It's scary to think how different "real" Korean society is than the reel they portray. They have become very westernized in terms of clothing and superficial stuff but ridiculously scary in terms of basic human rights and appearances. And this is not just for the foreigners. I've been watching kdramas and movies for a long time and you can see how the actors in the older dramas had, I don't wanna say darker but like a more normal and true Korean skin tone. Whereas now, everyone is literally just white. I can't imagine how this is affecting the normal people who take these actors as their idols and that's probably why a majority of people are obsessed with going under the knife. Korean society is the perfect example of don't judge a book by its cover. It looks absolutely beautiful and otherworldly from outside but the closer you get to it, you either get bullied for being different, or you need to change your basic existence to fit in. Extremely sad, especially I feel for the Koreans who themselves go through this everyday.

I had trauma with how bad they are. So I dont get the googly eyes we have for these korean stars. Its ingrained in their society, its that bad -its like asian hate in america but in reverse..

This story only tells us one thing, not everything you see on television . . . Is REAL. K-pop idols are pretty, handsome, earning higher, looks cool, looks happy, looks fresh, looks perfect, not until you hear their honest background story about how reach where they are. Sometimes, we might think they are lucky because they have good looks and fame, but you never know, they also think we guys are lucky, because we don't have to face all the pressures like they do. Pressure to look good, pressure to dance well, pressure to sing perfectly, pressure to entertain fans, pressure to do what your agency told so. If Kpop industry is a fun, then why do there are many idols who got depress and even commit suicide?

I don’t think the kpop industry will enjoy the current level of mainstream attention they’re enjoying now 5-10 years from now, because fads fade and people move on. It also doesn’t help that a microcosm of super fans have pushed this genre to the top in terms of internet culture, so the foundation for the general public to really connect with it organically is shaky and not really there. This will be important, because as more horror stories come out, and the truth about how manufactured the industry is shown to the mainstream it’ll only reinforce peoples negative feelings which encourages people dropping their interest even faster

This is why kpop fans need to accept it as soon as possible. The kpop industry is not all unicorns and candies…NOT AT ALL. It’s a toxic industry where people are treated like products. It’s fun, it’s good music, it’s handsome and beautiful people but it’s all business. Yes, long-standing groups have already made a strong relationship and bond with each other but we need to remember that this is still their ‘job’ and their companies will get their money’s worth. These are words from a decade long fan of kpop; along the way you just realize these things and you just get numb about all of it. 😩

Even for some korean, living in korea is hell if you’re not attractive or rich. They really took the “first impression matters” to the highest level that most of them are so superficial. Wanna know why so many bullying allegations? Because bullying is very common. Bullying the ugly, the poor, its very common with kids. The parents thought them to not hangout and pick or choose their friends. They also very racist specifically towards black and south east asian.

If you watch the stories about how Han Hyun Min grew up, yes, some people can be very racist. At least these days, people like Han Hyun Min have somewhat of a platform now so they can educate people on their sh*tty experiences growing up and even still growing up in society today. I saw this video where people actually started crying when they heard about Han Hyun Min's stories growing up and being discriminated against. He was even stopped at the Korean airport when coming back from France for not looking like the "average" Korean, which is mind fucking boggling to me because he was born in Korea as a Korean citizen and has held Korean citizenship for all of his life. Also, K-Doc is a good source to look if you want to learn about the lives of foreigners/multicultural families there.

This video is so revealing, thankful to Kuya for having the courage to share his story. I am aware of the rampant racism in Korea, but to give you guys hope, I will tell you of my good experience. I was traveling with my family in 2017. All full filipino, my mom, her sister & husband & my 2 cousins, except for me, I'm half filipino half American. We were flying back home to the US from the Philippines but we got delayed for over a day in the Incheon leg of our flight. We were able to visit Seoul for a few hours, and eventually started looking for a restaurant downtown. The 1st place was dark and eerie, no idea why we walked in but the owner shooed us out immediately, saying, "No credit card, no credit card." We found another place. Bright, cherry, a small but warm environment (especially good for Jan. 15th, the coldest day that winter). All I could say in korean at that point was thank you and kimchi, but we were able to gesture to the menu and the lady who helped us was so nice. She was older, and I know that some older people are more accepting of foreigners, but I'm not kidding, she treated us like family. We all ordered dak-dori-tang, but had no idea how to eat it or what to do with all the side dishes. She was the only worker in the restaurant and she took her time to tear apart the chicken in the broth and add in the kimchi & salt for everyone, and for my cousins & I, she even patted us on the head before she left like a doting aunt. Now I know most of the rest of the Korean people we interacted with were in the tourist industry, but I didn't have any upsetting experiences with anyone, through cashiers, street vendors, or airport staff. And yes, we were all tanned Filipinos straight from the heat of Mindanao. I am thankful for the good experience I had in Korea, even though I only got to experience the county outside of the airport for 7 hours. Those few hours were the beginning of my interest in korean culture & media. If I get to visit Seoul again, I would love to find that restaurant again and eat that delicious dori-tang and thank the kind lady for her excellent service and caring actions.

Personally, I'm taking dance workshops and voice lessons here in the Philippines in order to be able to become a trainee in Korea, and my dream is to somehow debut in Korea as an Idol, but after hearing this story, I think I'll give up my dream of becoming an Idol in Korea and instead focus on my studies, or maybe just stay here in the Philippines and train to be able to debut here as well, but the problem here in the Philippines is that P-Pop isn't really big here in PH. A lot pf people still prefer K-Pop done P-Pop. I feel sorry for Alvin Uy since he has squandered a lot of time, money, and other possibilities only to be able to make his debut in Korea, but I believe that is simply the way society is, and discrimination still exists everywhere. :( I hope that discrimination would no longer exist anywhere in the world, not just in Korea but also in other countries.

@@lecyber-purgatoire9803Though I am tall and have a nice height, I also have pale skin. In fact, I've already gotten emails from Korean agencies asking me and my workshop colleagues to train for them, but we haven't accepted them yet because the majority of them aren't that well-known. Instead, we're still waiting for the right opportunity, honing our skills here first, and looking forward to being accepted as trainees by a fairly reputable agency. If my appearance worries you, know that I actually looks like a Kpop idol thanks to my light skin, small face, and good height, possibly as a result of my Chinese ancestor.

@@jero4321 Well i hope it work for you, but again you are filipino, once they know where you from its done. Chinese and Japanese have pale skin and i saw stronger racism against them... Even all white are not all respected the same: russians or east european, they have blond hair blue eyes, but because there country is considered as "third world country" they are technically on the same level than blacks. lol You surely gonna be friends with foreigners there so you will never be alone, You may gonna meet good korean people, but you definitly gonna meet racist, so be ready! I lived japan 4years, so i though i was ready for korea. how wrong i was! haha just 2 years and i got depressed and almost suicidal... Anyway, good luck for your project there! sincerely wish you success in life! Be strong! 🙂

Honestly I think you should look up good companies, look up every k-pop star that you like some of them have even started their own agencies and throw your hat in the ring you may get lucky. Don’t you sign up with a random one. Just like if you were going to hire a coach to teach you something like a sport if you had the choice between a former Olympian/Olympic coach and a fat dude in a mall. You’re not gonna choose the guy in the mall. You might even want to see if any of the smaller but legitimate agencies would be willing to take you on like dreamcatcher’s agency or Chungha’s... they do have audition links on both of those companies so you might get lucky.

there are hundreds of idol groups debuting in korea every year and you’ll only hear a very few of those groups. before you even discovered that a certain group exists, they already disbanded and being drowned in debt. you can still have a career in ph but it would be just as hard. if you frequent ph bars, there are so many great singers/vocalists and you would wonder why they aren’t recording artists. what I’m saying is that fame happens to only to few people but you can still pursue your dream. still better if you do it in ph, your own country.

This is so messed up! Try and hire a lawyer to be present with you before signing any any contract. Especially if you're a foreigner living in another country.

I can appreciate their music, food and dramas but beyond that it's a no for me especially their people. Not all but most of them are xenophobic.

I’m not surprised. There’s so much colorism in k-pop, and the international fans are so much worse. I hope his story is heard and spreads.
