It's Me or the Dog

10 жыл бұрын

Jilly Johnson is struggling to control her boisterous Great Danes. Her dogs are excitable and spoilt. Not only do they rule the house but they run the town, terrorising the locals on a daily basis.
'It's Me or the Dog' follows world renowned British dog trainer Victoria Stilwell as she aids dog owners whose homes have been destroyed and relationships stretched to breaking point by their disobedient canines. From unruly hounds to pampered pooches, Victoria has seen it all.

Kitani Hunter I totaly agree... we have three ourselves and I'm also disabled.. ours had no professional training, yet they've learned manners from us... at home.. sad to say though last month Danes were added to a dangerous breed status due to their size, strength and inability of owners knowledge and control of their pets..

Bita Isturiz-Goldberg It's sad too. I hate seeing owners getting these large power breeds without knowing how to train them. A lot want them for show. It's one the reasons these great breeds end up those type of lists. If you can't handle your own dog you put others and your dog in a potential dangerous position; it can hurt others, yourself, or itself.

I've had lots of great danes and non acted that way. right now I have a 3 y/o that was never trained he is very social and thinks he's tiny but he's not. since he was little we got him used to people. the only this is that he doesn't know how to walk on a leash since we never took him on a walk (he lives in a big backyard) when I put the leash on he just sits or lays down and doesn't walk 😂.

Also, Great Danes are AMAZING dogs. They do need training when they are puppies, that's why Dillon acts like that. Don't give up on your dreams, btw! I have a female "blue" Dane. Medium sized, about 125 lbs. It is always a challenge when they are on leashes. In the dog park, she is great. But when walking on the street in our neighborhood (I would never dream of taking her into a shopping district) she is sometimes difficult. What you have to remember is they are awesomely strong, and ironically we have trained them to learn how to pull against a leash. I have pretty good control of our girl when out walking. If someone is walking towards us I get her attention, and keep her focused away from the pedestrians, bike riders, etc. The greater challenge is another dog. The dynamic of being on a leash makes the dog feel caged and at a disadvantage. So if the other dog, who feels the same way, starts to act aggressively you have a recipe for some mutual lunging, at least that's what my Dane does--but I generally keep her under control. My wife sometimes cannot. Again, they are awesomely strong and you need to respect that. Also keep in mind that when you are walking in your neighborhood on their regular walk, they consider that their territory so that can add to the aggression. If this becomes a big problem, I would recommend combined harness and gentle leader. We had a mastiff who would also lunge like that, and we used the harness/gentle leader. Helped a lot. But the better thing is to get them better trained, it takes time. And it is not always easy to replicate the situation that triggers the lunging in order to train them. But aside from all that, Danes are an amazing breed, regal, majestic, friendly smart. I've owned lots of different breeds, and this is easily one of my favorites.
