@Fill J. So just because they did a crime means they shouldnt do anything but sit in a cell & get 3 meals a day?! Suicides would go up drastically. I hope you dont ever get locked up cuz I'd wish that on you just so you can open your eyes & heart. You'd change your mindset real quick!

@Fill J. you want them to just read the Bible when you obviously don’t even know how to love your neighbor? What did Jesus do with the woman at the well, or the one caught in adultry? Or even the guy who had legions of demons inside of him? He didn’t just condemn them to hell lmao. Bro, fitness and working out takes discipline. It’s a complete 180. I think that’s the perfect thing for them to do. You just sound like an asshole who’s but hurt about people doing bad things. What, you think your measly sins are not as bad as the crimes they commit? Well they are. Cause it’s still sin. Maybe that will get through to you. You don’t deserve fitness either in the Bible’s eyes if that’s how you’re gonna look at it.

But... does any of you know Neudeck? In Munich, Germany? It is closed by now. I spent time there with 16 and again with 18. There are no sockets and no light switches in the cells. there is no nothing, basically. I was shocked, while be there so young and being very sick, too. Not sure if this matters, but at 23, peer pressures makes me angry. At 13, i was one of those kids, fucking around and doing stuff I wasn’t supposed to. You know where that got me 10 years later? A substance abuse evaluation and an OWI. If you have any issues, mental or physical, do not be afraid to speak out. People are willing to help and there’s no shame in asking for that, especially if it keeps you safe and alive. 🤟

I got an DUI in 2010. AZ is a no tolerance state and I ended up doing jail time in tent city. I understood I did something wrong and never did it again. I couldn’t believe how terrible we were treated. I could believe how hard the guards worked to make us feel like shit. A girl came back from work release drunk. She got arrested in jail and I’m sure charged with more crimes. If you are going to show up from work release drunk, you have an addiction. Their solution was to give her more time and take away work release. How do they not consider she needs treatment and not more jail time 😞

Blair white recently did a video where she talked about what she thinks Prisons should do with transgender inmates. She endorsed having a LGBT+ unit and that transgender people would be placed in a special unit for them. What she doesnt seem to care about, is that being a transgender inmate, isnt going to be common everywhere. She is basically saying they should put them in solitary or ad seg. Which is what they already do and is cruel. If your in the middle of rural Kansas and in prison, and your transgender, chances are your going to be the only trans person there. Shes describing Adminstrative segregation, and I was really frustrated by that. I understand that having someone who is transgender but hasnt had bottom surgery, can pose potential problems but locking someone up all by themselves? For years, is beyond cruel
@hollywood2499
@hollywood2499 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I seen her video on that and while the idea of it is well intended, it just isn't realistic. Especially like you said, somewhere in the middle of nowhere Arkansas or Kansas, there aren't many trans people so they wouldn't make a whole unit just for very few people unfortunately.
@praevasc4299

So what's the alternative? Putting a man into a women's prison just because he claims he's a woman? What if he was convicted of rape? Would you still put him into a woman's prison just because he claims he's a woman, and you are required to believe that statement? Sadly, there are not always solutions which are not harmful to at least someone. With putting transwomen into women's prison, you might help a tiny percentage of the population, but harm a much larger percentage of the population. Namely the women who might be locked in together with a serial rapist guy.

This country (the State’s) is very backward (in case you haven’t noticed). But the States is also a very violent and crime ridden country, so it’s hard to adequately compare us with Finland. That being said, we are in desperate need of prison reform.
@pihityyli
@pihityyli 3 жыл бұрын
@@Ceerads Yes, you are correct in that our cultures are different in violence and crime. I have been thinking this some time and there is a lot that has effects on this. from the laws (guns aren't easy to get here unless you have reason to own one like being a hunter ect. and you need permits and proof that you are part of hunting group. Even then having something like depression might be the reason you aren't allowed to own one) to how we see criminals and how they are punished. We have a lot of fines and they are based on your income so it really hits you the same if you are poor or rich. Yet we see that rehabilitation is key so that the crimes are stopped. Also I think it's absurd how much it seems that mentally ill or addicts get just pushed to prison without actual help in the states. Finland isn't by anymeans perfect we have a lot of issues but it's in my opinnion important to learn from others as well.

This is in Florida, idk if the prison is like that in Florida too or not. I worked in the segregation unit for a while and they are cuffed up everywhere they go. Through my time I have seen good officers and bad ones. Some will whisper “do you want a shower” then put it as a refusal when they “don’t get a response”. I don’t know how anyone could hear someone whispering through a metal door, but I see some good officers as well. Thanks for shedding light on this. My husband was wrongfully convicted. 18 years down and 7 years in solitary confinement. Full 23 & 1 no cell mate. They actually have a worse level of solitary outside of this. When he was at a different prison he was locked in a cell inside of a cell. No bed, no clothes, literally nothing. Him, the floor, and a paper gown. That lasted a year.

As someone that works in a prison I can explain one of the points you've made. When someone is handcuffed being taken down the corridor to medical (or anyplace else) we don't keep all non handcuffed people way to protect others, it's to protect the one handcuffed. If the corridor/hallway isn't cleared a group could potentially jump the officers and the one handcuffed and the one handcuffed wouldn't be able to protect themselves while the officers try to regain control of the situation. I really enjoy your channel.

I sometimes get claustrophobic in my car if my anxiety is up and I am having a bad mental day, I'll put a window down in the dead of winter. Anytime I hear you talk about solitary confinement it makes me anxious. I can't imagine spending 1 hour locked in there let alone 30 days, and you knew someone that spent a decade!!???!

NOODLE SALAD I can't 😂 I know this is a serious video, solitary confinement is absolutely so messed up (I have a tiny bit of personal experience with it) BUT I'm wondering if maybe you could make a funniest moments in prison? I spent most of my adolescence growing up in treatment centers, psych wards and group homes and I can't tell you how much I laughed despite it being so so miserable.

I have really learned a lot from your channel as to what really goes on in prison and thats only in the few you've been too! Definitely has made my outlook on the reform subject to acknowledging how important it is that things DO change in prison for the benefit of not only the individual but the people they are around when they are released..happy and healthy vs unstable....i think there shld be more help AFTER release as well getting back on your feet..💕

Anyone that has the ability to do this to someone should have to go through it themselves. This isn't discipline, this is torture. We say America is the land of the free yet we lock millions of our population up for the smallest things. We treat addicts like criminals. I've somehow always been lucky and only got locked up one time and got bailed out and the experience was absolutely horrifying. You lose your humanity the moment you walk in. Every movement they control as well as your voice. You're treated like you're nothing and they wonder why people end up returning... People just stop caring and give up.

I live alone and I really really really struggled at the beginning of the pandemic being quarantined. Mind you, I had my phone, internet, books, real food, and a small group I would see here and there and it still brought me to such a bad place mentally. I can only imagine what solitary is like. It is torture and it's not okay. It got to a point during the pandemic where I just didn't care who wore masks and who didn't or about covid at all. I just wanted things back to normal because to me mental health was as important as physical health

Could you maybe one day make a video of just listing the things you want changed, like not going into full detail or maybe a series of videos where you do like 5 bulletpoints with detail of what u feel needs to be done and changed. I absolutely LOVE your story time videos explaining what happen to you and where we can change from there. But I think the skeptics would better be receptive to just here is the first thing we need to change and why, here is the second thing we need to change and why.. so on and so forth. Maybe that's stupid but just a thought. Once again love ur videos Jes!

I had to get locked up for a week, last summer. Because of Covid, the whole facility was 23-1, and had been for a year or so. No visitors, no work, no library, no yard. Just an hour in the day room per 24 hours. I only had one week to get through, but I had never done any time before, and it was hell. Basically, alone in a little white room with nothing except the game of stashing the stuff I could. I can’t imagine being there like that for months or years, definitely inhumane. Especially being that almost everyone there was in for stuff like possession, or just being drunk in the wrong place. Imagine all the basically good people in there who ended up having to do even a short amount of time, couple weeks, and ended up losing their jobs or homes because they live check to check. What about their kids? It’s crazy. I think all police recruits should have to go through that before they become officers.

Girl,I want to join your fight, you nailed it. I am a non violent felon who rehabilitated myself...put myself thru college after release, graduated in 1995 with a Paralegal degree. I made it, I was lucky enough thru much hard work to reinvent myself. Had things been a little different tho, I would have never escaped that cycle. Ex offenders need people in their corner. P.S., regarding the CO's asking if you are suicidal, if you are truly not, you're getting ready to be. I answered that question wrong one time, and ended up naked in the velco suit, freezing my ass off on a concrete floor with no mat, no pillow and a bright light in my face 24/7. Unless you are in imminent danger of harming yourself, the answer to the suicide question is a hard "no."

I worked in a part of the prison, which is in mitchellville Iowa and is the only prison for women in Iowa. But anyway I worked in the suicide/mental health unit. And there were 3-4 of us and we would rotate from one "bubble" to the other. Where we sat we were in a locked glass tank and the inmate we were watching was in an all glass like cell in the "turtle suit." Some we had to check every 15 minutes other every 5 minutes. We had to walk to the door and then write on our log sheet what they were doing. It was sad in there. One shift when I went in an inmate was strapped Down to a bad. Every hour they would unlock one limb for about 30 minutes each. So sad. I had to quit that job. 😣

Mental health is neglected and that's an understatement. Even i used to think not much of it but when it happened to me which I thought it neverr would...my eyes were opened. It's worse than physical withdrawal. Atleast physical issues you can see but mental is hidden. Sometimes even to yourself

Yesss jess, completely agree that prisons and states are horrendous about not putting mentally ill folks where they need to go ie;mental hospita. My cousin is a paranoid schizophrenic and has been institutionalized, he went in for car jacking at 16 or 17 and charged as an adult because a child was in the car, he was caught tresspassing with a weapon, and now he is waiting on a sentence for IMO his worst crime to date attacking/ attempting to murder my sweet 4ft 10in mommy ; he hit her and fractured her head in two places, broke a small bone in her ear and stabbed her in the inner bicep which severed a major artery( and these are only the charges that he has done prison time for/ awaiting his time). The kicker is during one of his stays years before my moms attack while seeing mental health and taking meds DAILY he was classified by the psychiatrist as criminally insane... I don't understand how you let an extremely disturbed inmate out free with that label. My mom is in the middle of depositions and what not, has a victims advocates, luckily the state of Florida is footing the bills,crime scene cleaning of her apartment, and therapy(mainly for the PTSD she now suffers with daily). The artery in her upper/inner arm was completely severed and she is 100,000,000% lucky her trauma team were able to save her life and managed to stitch the artery very gently and she still has her arm❤ her friend as well got stabbed multiple times upside the head and ended up stitched up and fine. She is pushing for a mental facility for the rest of his life. She is also looking at a case against the state for releasing him with no real care in the world that he was labeled criminally insane, which in turn caused a poor family to find him in their dwelling with a weapon(we have contacted them to see if they want to join the suit against the state, and them,my mom,and her buddy are all seeking damages. 🤞🤞🤞🤞fingers cause she and the others all deserve damages for the mental havoc that he and the state of florida unleashed on them.
