I met Jeff and Dave Mustaine on the ramp to down under the Nassau coliseum on that tour opening for Dio. It was a funny moment. A friend of mine and I ran down ramp trying to sneak pass guard earlier in day about sound check time. Old grumpy bastard. As he was kicking us out and walking us back up a taxi pulled right past us down the ramp. Parked inside about a 100 feet . It was Dave and Jeff. I saw Dave’s hair thru back window as they went by. We ran right by guard and called for Dave. Guard still kicked us out. But Dave and Jeff came out up the ramp to talk with us. Pissed the old grumpy guard off and it was a great show later knowing we had already had that experience. Thanks Jeff. Good times.

Yeah but Mustaine and Young can't stand each other. Plus I don't know how good Jeff is on bass. Just because you play great guitar doesn't make you a good bass player. @@IAmGRX Mustaine couldn't give a shit to be mad at the guy at this point.. He long moved on.. Like in 1990 when he married Pam. Jeff remained bitter about it for a good while after it though.. He was trashing Mustaine in interviews until about 2010 or so... I'm assuming that he and Mustaine have spoken on some of this stuff with each other which is why he stopped doing it.. Mustaine did say something in response at the time like I haven't got a bad thing to say about the guy just the truth of what went down at the time he was there.. And wished him all the best in future.. Young was hung up on the fact that Mustaine bluntly said that he (Jeff) was more concerned about his hair, being a ego and saying some weird shit about wanting to sleep with his girlfriend.. All things Young denies but honestly.. Its not hard to believe these things just looking at some interviews at the time.. I have no doubt Mustaine was a pain to work with at the time as he was strung out a lot.. As was Ellefson.. Not a secret either.. They both admit this was the case.. Young claims that the cancelled shows in Australia was blamed on him but was actually because Mustaine and Ellefson was having withdrawals... Either way this shit talking in the press has long since ended from Young and he seems more content with his position in the legacy of the band today..

Maybe that's the problem with artists like Jeff Young, they cannot seem to be able to focus on one genre specifically the one they are good at or in his case absolutely world class at. The idea of mixing genres never appealed to me and I don't think it appeals to many listeners. I love gipsy jazz but not mixed with metal. Not just because it is too completely different moods but because the chances of getting a player capable of getting both genres perfectly is close to none. Hard Rock or Heavy Metal players who play manouche guitar or flamenco even masters like Satriani and Satch, they are quite not to the level and soul and culture of specialized guitarists and the other way round is true too. I doubt Django Reinhardt would have made a great heavy metal guitarist but then again why would you want him to be? Sure you can go from playing Mark Knopfler to Cannibal Corpse if you want to but it is never going to appeal much. Some things mix like oil and vinegar and that's about it. It is a shame artists like Jeff Young refuses to specialize at least for the time of one album then change genre but to throw the whole genres kitchen sink into one track... it is not even experimental it is just messy. The same could be said of Marty Friedman, some of his solo albums... it is all over the place. Because it is instrumental does not mean you have to throw all your instruments and techniques at it.
