How can she be accountable when she did not become the chief until June 2021. This incident happened before her time. Memphis PD has had a reputation for years. The only way to get rid of their issues is to fire everyone and start over.

My family owns powerlifting federations ina varying 60 countries and probably 20% of our lifters are in law enforcement. All cops abroad call the United States a police state and very much not a free country. To be a cop in Germany you must have a bachelor's degree to apply, pass test to make sure you have the temperament, followed by getting your master's in law enforcement and policing. They are the nicest and most bad ass people in Germany. The cops I know don't allow their children to come here because cops here especially hate foreigners.

What do lawmakers, police departments, all who stand in support of cops no matter what they do expect when you give incompetent, unstable, easily angered people a badge & gun & the protection to do as they please without consequence beyond paid vacation while their coworkers investigate their actions & tax payers paying subsequent lawsuits due to their violations? A simple fix would be to treat them just as any other citizen on a job & let them know their badge & gun doesn't make them miniature dictators to handle citizens however they please. In fact citizens should be granted the freedom & right to deal with cops out of order as any other citizen & stop allowing them to hide behind their badge if they don't respect the badge themselves.

I was born & raised in Memphis lived there 45 years of my 48 years of life. I now live a couple states away. This has been a problem for years in this city. African American officers seen themselves as deities inside of civil servants. I know for the last decade they have been abusing their authority not just in African American communities other minorities such as Latinos were often victimized because you are looked upon as trustworthy individuals these victims cries went unheard. I too had a several experiences with them. People feared them in that city. Rev. Al Sharpton described them perfectly they are a gang in blue. There are some great officers in Memphis but copious amounts of bad ones. We called them a gang in uniform and finally this unprofessional department is getting a remake. Noone should fear being accosted by cops. Sad and a change that is overdue but something big is finally happening in Memphis.

You can't expect the police to police themselves. There has to be a better way, and it should be done by people with no allegiance to the department or any of its employees. It's extremely rare for any of them to act this quickly, over police brutality, and they got the video of the 5 officers out, in record time. So what's the excuse in the multitude of other cases?🤔🤬 We should see this each and every time. I use to believe that the good officers outnumbered the bad, but I definitely no longer believe that. Silence is complicity. I know they have a difficult and dangerous job, but that's no excuse for abuse of power.
