I remember reading his articles in OXM and watching the Inside Xbox show he did on XBL. One of the few really good gaming journalists out there, what helps is comes across like a gamer first and isn't busy using his position to push an agenda like a lot of media people these days, particularly in gaming media. Ryan keeps it about the games, which is appreciated.

Sony did not invent 1080p tech it's been in trials since 1936 from a British company it was Philips and other to push HD broadcasting not Sony... like I always say Sony replicates. Nintendo revolutionized the the industry of gaming

NextGenNate No they didn't Blu-ray was created founded by (Blu-ray Disc Association) not Sony... Sony was a member as others majors companies to use the Blu-Ray Technology.

Ryan McCaffrey is a really good interviewer. I'm actually surprised at his interviews. Hearing Jack's voice makes me sad he isn't president anymore. Something about his personality makes me want to listen to what he has to say.

this interviewer should ask more hard on questions like more on psx startup, ps2 hardware complications, ps2 backwards compatibility for ps3 missing to sell of ps2 stock, otheros that lead to hackers getting pissed to hack ps3, and so on! Still decent interview.

I like this guy. he's well seasoned and his lived a little It shows in his comments: 1- he doesn't play ps anymore because if you've work for years at an ice cream parlor that only sold vanilla ice cream the last thing you want is vanilla ice cream. 2- becoming ceo of sony america right before playstation 3 launch was like becoming captain of the titanic right before it hit the iceberg.

We need this guy back. Ever since he has been gone, PlayStation exclusive games turned from a once or twice a month kind of deal into a once or twice a year one. I don't know if it was Jack himself who secured so many PS3 exclusives back in the day, but I do remember him saying in interviews that he personally felt like he had to provide all of these exclusives in order to keep the fans happy - and now that he's gone, Sony barely ever releases any damn games. I mean, there have been years in this generation where Sony has released around 2 exclusives, this is a far cry from how Sony operated in the PS3 era and not only that, but when it's just 2 games, there's a high chance that you're not going to like both of them, or maybe you won't like either of them. What I'm getting at is that, we're not exactly spoiled for choice, are we? And the thing is, in the PS3 era, I feel like we were spoiled for choice and now with the PS4, the standards have dropped significantly not only in terms of quantity but also quality, for the most part. We need you back, Jack!!

Don't they have any PlayStation experts to interview Jack. It's just weird that McCaffery does this interview and goes to the PlayStation Meeting even though he has long been in charge of the Xbox division. IGN needs Playstation experts like they used to have with Colin and Greg.

at IGN, there is no such thing as "PlayStation experts" or "Xbox experts", Ryan always a reporter first . both on Unlocked and Beyond they have specified that people who work at IGN have to be malleable and just love games in general over a piece of plastic. I understand your point, but I believe Ryan is one of the best interviewers at IGN, I was really impressed by his impression of PS4 pro at the event.

I get what you were trying to say, Ryan, with the quality vs quantity question, but I think you could have framed it better by asking: "What was Sony's take on continuing a franchise with several sequels (Microsoft's position with the 360) vs having more one-off exclusives (Sony's stance)?" Regardless, another great episode! Can't say thank you enough for bringing this type of content to IGN. There's a nice level of diversity on your site now, so much content to love lol. Keep it up :]

I was always an Xbox guy but Jack Tretton was always my favorite CEO in the Sony vs Microsoft race. However Phil Spencer is better than the current Sony CEO, it would have been a GREAT time in gaming history if Jack and Phil were competitors since they are both respectful charismatic leaders.
