Mr. Carter was elected in November of 1976. At the time I was 18, but I'm 66 now. People who were 40 then are pushing 90 today. However, your assessment is correct, it wasn't the greatest of times during his administration.

This 90-100+ year old generation, literally called the Greatest Generation like my grandpa who fought in WWII, they could all build houses themsevles, jacks of all trades, knew what was important in life. They had such quiet dignity and part of the reason it was so easy to respect your elders when I was little. He wasn’t a bad president, not evil like Obama and Biden, but he was a very weak president. He caused a lot of problems from the Shah of Iran falling, and the rise of the radical Muslims throughout the world, to inflation a weak military, and extremely underperforming navy. President Reagan had to come in and it took almost the first four years to get everything back to fairly normal, and the second term of Reagan. became much more prosperous for citizens. My parents lost 31% of their pension buying power just under the first three years of Carter. It was pathetic.

Your understanding of the powers of the Executive branch are remarkably similar to Louis XIV’s views of the monarchy: “L’etat c’est moi.” Perhaps you should consider developing a more nuanced view of the concept of separation of powers?

@@brianburry4862 I guess I can agree with that...he wasn't evil, just stupid! His affordable home crap in the middle of double digit inflation, a recession, really high unemployment...the guy was in way over his head! There's no amount of MLK Jr. portraits he can hang up to make that go away.

Based off my quick readings, most academics consider his presidency a failure, but atleast he actually cared for whatever that’s worth. Most modern day presidents do not care, and only serve their interests or their parties interests

He wasn't an amazing president, but he wasn't awful either, and he was an amazing HUMAN BEING. A true humanitarian that dedicated his life to the needy. There are more vile comments here than there are decent ones, and I guarantee I know where they stem from. They certainly aren't your own thoughts.

Nope. His presidency wasn't notable, His post-presidency work is where is had the greatest impact. Carter didn't slink back and hide. Instead, he put his beliefs to work and left a legacy to be admired.

@@moussegarbonzo8352 really? Please tell me about my thoughts for me. I'd love to know what I was thinking since you know and I dont lol. Or maybe dont get your feelings hurt by a fact that you dont like. He wasnt a good president. He was a pretty good person though. Amazing that a person can do research and formulate an opinion without you giving it to them....

I agree with you. Mr. Carter was academically intelligent and a nice man, but he didn't belong in that office. Those were four very lousy years for America. I was a freshman in college when he was elected and was in Army BCT when he was defeated for re-election. He's one of the reasons that I changed political parties.
