It should be taxed like any other business and not on top of your personal allowance

Bring back taper relief or indexation on CGT, especially now that CGT rates are probably going to mirror income tax rates

Great interview and insight. HMRC love changing the goal posts as mentioned here with the Loancharge scandal ; retrospective taxation and disgusting processes leading to over 10 suicides.

Very interesting podcast and very informative but I just feel all the questions were asked for people with multiple properties and not for individual who are the infant stage of increasing their portfolios i.e. live in a property and rent another

HMRC are much fairer than IRS. Have lived in UK and US and both passports. If you are British and have the money, can go to Dubai to get citizenship and no income tax, plus incorporating a business not corporate tax on first 80k approx. Only taxed in UK on you UK business and real estate. Although, if you have US citizenship you can not avoid tax in Dubai.

My sister has worked for the HMRC for over 20 years, but she works in the VAT section (managing a team of VAT officers). She never gives us tax advice (our family) 🤣 My brother was a police officer for over 20 years (though he’s left the job, he was fed up and changed careers) and he was also never able to answer the kind of questions (around law) my family and I would ask….. 😝

@@hassanamir387 Being desi, they know that “apne” (South Asians) have no respect for boundaries, so it’s best to play dumb. I wish I’d done the same as them, but me and my big gob (sharing my knowledge) has meant that I’ve felt obligated to help……. I am learning though….. learning that it’s best to play dumb!

@@Bambotb My brother has set up his own business (his mental health was deteriorating in the force and its improved greatly since he’s left) and my sister continues to work for HMRC - her son is also a police officer, though he’s only been in the job for 2 years. I know I don’t want my children to work in public services. The only positive in my opinion, is the pension.

Agreed. Massive corruption, tax avoidance and issues around incompetence. Cowboy builders get a free ride because they government knows they can't get any other jobs so it's a way to keep neanderthals off the streets and earning. Funny how these people are also the most racist and also the most vocal tory supporters. Especially in the south east, Essex.
