(I’m talking hundreds of sharks- like I peed myself bc I’m scared of them and the guides weren’t expecting them, but there weren’t any attacks, so it’s all good).. also jellyfish were terrifying as well... but I loved especially seeing sea turtles .... and on the way we got to see dolphins and manta rays leaping out of the water

If you can see them from the shore that would be amazing, but please don't go on a whale watching boat/trip unless you know the organization is following protocol and staying a safe distance away from the orcas. I used to enjoy Zoos, Now I question myself about how these animals feel
@JazzyNym4 жыл бұрын
You have to take into account though HOW these places are run. A lot of zoos do great work with conservation and education, and often have animals that can't be released into the wild anyways (one common example is animals rescued from private owners who stole them so young from the wild and/or bred them in captivity that they can no longer survive in the wild even if they were returned). I remember visiting a place that had an area where you could interact with dolphins but they were in the ocean, no tanks or anything, they just knew there was free food and they were used to humans so they'd show up but it's not like there were showtimes they were either there or they weren't. The problem with places like SeaWorld is that their number one priority is making money, regardless of the safety/health of the animals. No Killer Whale at SeaWorld was in any way "rescued" because there's pretty much no situation where they would need to be that would then lead them to be unable to survive in the wild. Killer whales aren't like land animals--their basic needs are dependent on a global oceanic system that simply can't be replicated in a tank. Plus, they're highly social and intelligent, which makes it different than putting, say, jellyfish in an aquarium.
@ruthlesslistener3 жыл бұрын
Ethical zoos focus entirely on conservation and the animal's comfort, though. The entertainment aspect is used for education, and the animals are not forced to come close to the people (example, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park). @@Lightningwolf0925 Its nature. They are free to live how they want and come across more varieties of food and life and be with their own kind and the countless other free animals. We are not caring for them we are exploiting them. They're confined to a small tank all their lives and killed when they're no longer useful since its cheaper than shipping them back to the wild where they will die since they were forced to live for years without learning off of their natural instincts in their natural environments. Death is just a part of life, if an animal is hunted in the wild there's nothing wrong with that. Humans can only give wild animals a miserable boring life before giving them death, that's why there are people who do not like zoos and certain animals in pet stores.
@EGGMANNoriginal5 жыл бұрын
Avenged Rider We’re not talking about a gold fish here. You’re obviously uneducated on the subject and should probably do some research. Some animals can do okay in confinement, but the Orca is not one of them. As it’s been proven. 1. They are intelligent animals capable of developing physiological problems. It’s like locking a person in a room for their whole life. You’re not protecting them from anything, instead you’re harming them physiologically in irreversible ways. 2. A tank will never compare to an open ocean. They swim hundreds of miles a day in the ocean, while they can barely move in some of their tanks. It’s chemically treated water and often times they can’t escape the sun. So they developed health issues. 3. They are apex predators. They are top of the food chain and any animal is going to be happier in their natural habitat. 4. Orcas in the wild have an average life expectancy of 30 to 50 years-their estimated maximum lifespan is 60 to 70 years for males and 80 to over 100 for females. The average age of death for orcas who have died at SeaWorld is 14 years old.

Defqon I was talking about the last sentence of your comment ‘they don’t know what is happening to them’.. if you starve a rat, it will know. If you keep a bird in captivity, it will pluck it’s feathers. Some small animals can even commit suicide from stress.. they do know that something wrong is happening to them, sure, they might not know they are trapped, but they will for sure know, if they are being hit, starved, or whatever. If an animal didn’t know when it is in pain, it wouldn’t survive, and therefore die.

Defqon that is quite incorrect.. I don’t really understand how you believe something can survive without knowing it is treated badly..
@Djawyzard5 жыл бұрын
@Defqon Yes and for all animals its bad to live in a place with different conditions than those in wich its species evolved for thousands or hundreds of thousands years, as is almost allways the case in captivity. A bird for example, no matter how unintelligent it is will feel the biological need to roam over a big area, just the same way it feels the biological need to eat and to reproduce. So yeah, unintelligent animals surely don't understand they are being 'treated badly' because they are in a captivity but at a biological level they know the conditions are not right for them. Now please stop pretending to know more about the subject than what you actually know
@Djawyzard5 жыл бұрын
@Defqon I have a bachelor in Environmental Engineering and I'm working on my masters so I'm pretty sure I understand at least the basics about evolution. Judging by the definition you just presented, I'm afraid you are the one who doesn't understand evolution. Evolution is not the "ability to adapt", evolution is the ability of a species as a whole to change trough competiton over several generations. The ability of an individual to adapt is fairly limited and certainly not enough to cope with very fast changes to their environment. You believe some birds have the ability to navigate over thousands of kilometers but can't figure out they are flying in small circles? Evaluating how well an individual of a certain species does in captivity involves a lot more factors than just how "smart" they are. You are too arrogant for your level of knowledge

It’s not supporting animal abuse, the orcas have all the free will they please to not perform, heck, so do the dolphins and sea lions, they have people RIGHT NEXT TO THEM. If the dolphin decides “I don’t want to perform anymore” then it can just swim away from the trainer, or if it’s sick of the trainer, I’m fairly certain it could take out the trainer, it’s a 1500 pound marine animal vs a 200 pound human in the water, guess who’s winning that argument? Same with the sealions, those bites will tear our flesh easy, they also are heavier, again, they aren’t forced because if they were, im sure they wouldn’t be happy about it

I remember that most of the gang that left stayed longer then they had wanted due to Tilikum. They didn't want to leave him because of how much mistreatment he was getting due to his background. What sucks so much is that Tilikum was being bred and was valuable due to his sperm, but what they didn't take into consideration was that as smart as Orcas are, they share experiences with others, regardless. Animals communicate and learn from each other. I'm pretty sure these intelligent mammals shared their frustration, seeing another get punished, locked up and neglected. Of course they'll start retaliating and lashing out given the opportunity. Orcas are apex predators that adapt to whatever they come across. And that includes the human mind.

Y’all do realize that if these animals were released to the wild they would die right? I understand not adding more whales but unfortunately the ones they have now have to remain in captivity or they will die quickly due to bacteria in the water that they do not have now. These animals are beautiful awe inspiring and while I don’t think they should be in the tanks Sea World definitely cares for these animals more than they care for their employees or guests. Sea World definitely does a lot of good with the rescue, rehabilitation, and return of thousands of animals who need help. People tend to think that this is the only thing Sea World does which is not the case, they do a ton of good for wildlife. There is a reason Jack Hanna still supports them and it is for this reason. Stop letting the media manipulate you into being against sea world. I encourage all of you to look up your own facts and learn about the whole situation before jumping to sides here. Also, just so y’all know, sea world ended the breeding program of Orcas in 2016, after this generation dies in the next 20 years or so Sea World will no longer hold orcas in captivity.

@jordan.. and I guess you could say the same about other hated ppl or organizations lol- do you want a leader who ends animal testing/animal cruelty? A leader who promises to create a strong economy? Guess who that was? HITLER 🤣🤣🙄 just bc you do something that’s good doesn’t take away the bad... I think most of the world population (those that aren’t brainwashed- which believe me there are still Europeans that are completely brainwashed about nazis) can agree hitler was an evil dude and any good that he may have done does not at all erase all the bad he did..... generally speaking there’s good and bad in most ppl, but you can’t ever erase the bad things you do- you can repent or try to make them right, but as they say what’s done is done. Just bc sea world does these animal rescues and rehabs, doesn’t erase the abuse the whales endure
@candicecart97865 жыл бұрын
Oh and also they didn’t “end the breeding program” they were FORCED to by the California government ... and you want to know how they are “ending” the “breeding program”?!?!?? By giving the female orcas fing BIRTH CONTROL! Are you freaking kidding me?!?!? That is abuse!
@UnassumingStoner5 жыл бұрын
Candice Cart Yeah, so there is not a comparison here, as much as you’d like to get your point across, Sea World and HITLER (as you like to call him) are polar opposites. Hitler May have ended testing on animals but the man did it in favor of doing it to human beings, it’s pretty sadistic if you think that we are talking about anything similar here. If you do your research, Sea World completely ended the Orca breeding program, it’s not temporary, not because of California or any legislation, completely OVER for them because they want to do the right thing. Sea World understands that people are upset (even though those people don’t really have a clue what’s going on), therefore they go by what the public wants to see happen. They are focusing more on rides and conservation now and are evolving to become more of a theme park that happens to rescue animals and teach people about the ocean than what you call a prison. I get people that say the whales were abused, from the outside looking in, it does look like it. I’m honestly not an animal expert, but I am someone who doesn’t cry foul at everything I don’t understand. You can hate Sea World all you want, at the end of the day, they are a multi million dollar company and will continue to stay that way. Their earnings have been increasing and the good they do will continue to grow as the company does.
@UnassumingStoner5 жыл бұрын
Amber Pavon do your research please, Sea World definitely made money off of them. So do zoos off their lions and tigers, so do aquariums with their sharks, just like any good business they market their niche product. Shamu sold, Shamu also inspired millions of people to be activists for the environment. Just because someone sells something doesn’t make them evil. It’s not like they were making handbags out of the damn whales, they sell stuffed animals, you don’t have a point here.

I remember going to SeaWorld with my family back in 1982 when I was around 6 years old. I had fun watching some of the animals and the rides, but I felt something wasn’t right. In my young mind it kept saying, “they don’t belong here. they don’t belong here”. I didn’t know what it meant, and never said anything to my parents so I kept it to myself for years. It wasn’t until I was a little older (around 10), that I watched a commercial of SeaWorld on TV, when it hit me. ‘They’ meant the Whales. I later went to my parents and asked them to not take us to SeaWorld anymore. I explained some information I discovered, and that the Whales belonged in Pods swimming freely in their natural habitat. Thankfully, my parents listened and never took us back. With the addition with the infamous Blackfish documentary, only solidified my stance all the more. I am so so happy that people are much more aware of this!

Skull Hero “certain animals” they dont care about the effects as long as they can make a quick buck on it. saying theyre saving the animals life is just another title to slap on things so they look better and get more money. yes, housing endangered animals and trying to breed them is pretty good if theyre in correct conditions with proper care. no, giving them one tree and one water source and place theyre supposed to sleep is not care. some zoos do mean well and they do take amazing care of their animals. but a lot shouldnt be caged in the first place regardless of how great theyre off. and thats only speaking for a small number of zoos.
