Why does it start you at lvl 0? When I play it's optional.

It depends on the version you're playing. On PC, you have to play through Level 0 before you get to the studio. On PS1, it takes you straight to the studio and gives you the option of playing Level 0. Even though it forces you to play Level 0, the PC version is still faster overall, so Level 0 we play.

A lot of it comes down to the lack of load times. The PS1 version has long load screens between each level, and the PC version transitions pretty much instantly. Also, there are some glitches that are tied to the framerate and don't work at 30fps. Stuff like getting Sam stuck in Level 14 and luring the sheep onto the elevator in Level 12 don't work on PS1.
