"WWE Wrestlers get paid more for performing high risk stunts during matches: TRUE", Mick Foley should be living in a house made of solid gold

The entrance music question reminds me of something i heard about Triple H's theme "The Game" at first, Jim Johnston, WWEs misic guy at the time, made the song, demoed it for Hunter and he asked "Can you make it sound like MötorHead?" Jim replied "I can hire MötorHead." And Triple H pretty much fangirled when he heard that.

@@Ottophil I understand this sentiment when the crowd gives a "fight forever" chant to Heath Slater vs Zack Ryder staredown before the match, but the best crowds are the most innovative crowds with their chants. The football crowds in UK especially bring smiles on the wrestlers' faces with their unique and personalized chants and singalongs. On the other hand, one must appreciate the respectfully silent crowds in Japan that only make noise after a beautiful exchange or at the crescendo of an epic battle.

That would have been a good myth to ask for this video...do faces split merch sales with their feuds...I know it was done in the past (Cornette has an old but good video about it) but was it done in Mavens time? Today EVERYONE sells merch to point i think it hurts business as a heel can't ever be...that bad and that hurts the product...plus normally heel rooting is so rampant your always on verge of turning face anyway. But know it was done in 80s was it gone by mavens time that'd be a good question
@boraonline7036
@boraonline7036 2 ай бұрын
That winning and losing "myth" even got people who became quite famous wrestlers, even close before they started to become a wrestler. Like Chirs Jericho said that he figured out that it's scripted who gets over, but if it comes to the championship matches he thought they are legit. So a pro wrestler had to tell him, when Jericho was the greenest greenhorn, that also the outcome of a championship match is scripted. And he was like "WTF?!" 🤣

My favourite crowd editing was when they edited out people cheering for Sid eliminating Hogan at the 1992 Rumble lmao. They even redid the COMMENTARY to try to make out that Sid was "cowardly" for... checks notes... cleanly eliminating someone from a Royal Rumble. And then Hogan pulled him out! Such a classic case of "we'll TELL YOU who you like!" even when the designated face was so clearly in the wrong.

That the crowd noise gets manipulated already happened during the "Giolden Era" There was a match with Hogan where the crowd did like his heel oponent more than him. But that's not what WWF/Vince wanted, so they added cheers for Hogan and lowered the audience if the booed Hogan or cheered for the heel. Because Hogan was still the face of the company and their "Golden Goose".

The canned heat goes the other way too. They control all crowd noise. I once tried to shout as loud as I could "HEY!!!" at a live Raw during a particularly quiet match because I wanted to see if I could catch myself on the live broadcast I was recording at home. When I say as loud as I could, I mean my voice rang out through the entire arena, and the match was a tag match with MNM, and Melina at ringside actually turned to look when I did it. I watched the replay, found the point where Melina turned away from the ring to look, and no shout. It was just the same standard generic audience noise droning on like always during the live broadcast. They'd dubbed me out.

It's amazing how things have turned around for WWE. They've actually been dampening crowd noise for overseas shows lately. I was at Clash for example, and I can assure you the crowd did not politely quiet down so we could hear the ring announcers. Watching the show back the next day was kinda funny. There are multiple times that they dampen the crowd either so the commentators or announcer can be heard. Can only assume they did the same in Lyon, cos that crowd was nuts.

Vince tried to get Ventura to fire his agent and use one of theirs so that he could get a piece of the pie. Shady. Also, I still wonder how of Dirty Dom's heat/boos is piped in. Some attendees say the boos are universal, but not as loud as it comes off on TV.

The piped in crowd noise was probably the most jarring revelation when I went to my first house show. You can get away with it in a real arena, but it looks and sounds weird when you're in some hole in the wall tiny 5,000 seat arena that's usually used for amateur indoor soccer. You can literally see everybody else's face in the seats and they're playing the "full stadium cheers" soundtrack on the speakers and it makes it seem like you're attending an event with the world's most talented collection of ventriloquists.

I got thinking. When you said about pay increase for high risk matches. Those matches would never be the first or second match on the card. Those are usually highlights of the night, even if they’re not the headliner. Therefore those talent would be getting paid well already, and then they have that “incentive” I also agree with you about WWE in this case not so much worried about your well-being but rather “their investment” as you put it (I like that actually). I worked construction for over 18 years, and although the risks are very real, and is a physically demanding job, our boss wasn’t a bad guy, but you knew in his eyes, if you couldn’t be there, wether sick or hurt, he wanted you to get better, because he needed you back to work And about the developmental territories, I feel that was a “fair” way to keep you working, and to temporarily “demote you”, so you can improve, instead of just firing you. That’s actually, to me anyways, is pretty good of WWE. (I want to call the developmental territories, the “farm league”, that the Canadian hockey fan in me, sorry Maven)

Now that I'm older I appreciate all your blood and sweat you guys/gals put for our entertainment. In my eyes you are a true athlete and deserve wrestling to be considered a sport. Also I love your show and very informative into thw sport we all love.

The closest thing to "Do wins & losses affect pay?" being true would probably be the Winner's Purse, which I believe is still 100% a real thing in pro wrestling. Sure, it's all pre-determined, but giving the winner of a match a little extra money is still a reliable way for the booker to say "I'm putting my faith in you, & I'm even putting down extra money to prove it, so prove to me that you're worth it".

Don't know where they used them though because I was watching live, not at home.

This is a very cool video as always, it's very enlightening to get some "inside info" from a former pro. However, I didn't think the crowd noise thing was much of a secret, let alone a myth - I think it was pretty much common knowledge. At the latest after 2015 and 2016 when WWE tried to force-push Roman Reigns as the top guy, because the TV showed him getting cheered while both reports and videos from fans in attendance proved he was mostly booed. I think this is also a reason why they mostly stopped doing it (at least this extremely) today, because with the internet and social media, it gets pretty pathetic very quickly. However I'm sure they still boost (or reduce) crowd noise to augment the experience. They even started referencing this in some fourth-wall-breaking segments, I remember both Kevin Owens and Triple H at some points referencing this when talking about the boos Dom Mysterio gets - both said stuff along the lines of "I thought the noise was enhanced, but it's actually not" (and people in attendance also reported this). At this point, can we also take a second to mention that Dom Mysterio has turned heel while already being heel, therefore making him (and his moustache) heel²? I think it is rather remarkable how he pulled that off, all while having a moustache.
