Today EVERYONE sells merch to point i think it hurts business as a heel can't ever be...that bad and that hurts the product...plus normally heel rooting is so rampant your always on verge of turning face anyway. That winning and losing "myth" even got people who became quite famous wrestlers, even close before they started to become a wrestler. So a pro wrestler had to tell him, when Jericho was the greenest greenhorn, that also the outcome of a championship match is scripted. And he was like "WTF?!" 🤣

My favourite crowd editing was when they edited out people cheering for Sid eliminating Hogan at the 1992 Rumble lmao. They even redid the COMMENTARY to try to make out that Sid was "cowardly" for... checks notes... cleanly eliminating someone from a Royal Rumble. And then Hogan pulled him out! That the crowd noise gets manipulated already happened during the "Giolden Era" There was a match with Hogan where the crowd did like his heel oponent more than him. I once tried to shout as loud as I could "HEY!!!" at a live Raw during a particularly quiet match because I wanted to see if I could catch myself on the live broadcast I was recording at home. When I say as loud as I could, I mean my voice rang out through the entire arena, and the match was a tag match with MNM, and Melina at ringside actually turned to look when I did it. I watched the replay, found the point where Melina turned away from the ring to look, and no shout. It was just the same standard generic audience noise droning on like always during the live broadcast. They'd dubbed me out.

It's amazing how things have turned around for WWE. They've actually been dampening crowd noise for overseas shows lately. I was at Clash for example, and I can assure you the crowd did not politely quiet down so we could hear the ring announcers. Watching the show back the next day was kinda funny. There are multiple times that they dampen the crowd either so the commentators or announcer can be heard. Can only assume they did the same in Lyon, cos that crowd was nuts.

Those are usually highlights of the night, even if they’re not the headliner. Therefore those talent would be getting paid well already, and then they have that “incentive” I also agree with you about WWE in this case not so much worried about your well-being but rather “their investment” as you put it (I like that actually). I worked construction for over 18 years, and although the risks are very real, and is a physically demanding job, our boss wasn’t a bad guy, but you knew in his eyes, if you couldn’t be there, wether sick or hurt, he wanted you to get better, because he needed you back to work And about the developmental territories, I feel that was a “fair” way to keep you working, and to temporarily “demote you”, so you can improve, instead of just firing you. That’s actually, to me anyways, is pretty good of WWE. (I want to call the developmental territories, the “farm league”, that the Canadian hockey fan in me, sorry Maven)

11:09 Same goes with Professional sports too. TV is where the money is. attendance at the stadium isn't as important.

They don’t just add crowd reaction for tv, they do it for live events. I went to see a Royal Albert Hall show in the 90’s and had a seat in a box. There was cheering coming from the speakers above us.

Was that mic'd from the crowd or a fake sound entirely

Why were you sitting in a box? You couldn’t see anything from inside of a box. Did you poke holes through it or something?

I usually hate sponsors... but how you work them into your content is actually pretty damn charming

The closest thing to "Do wins & losses affect pay?" being true would probably be the Winner's Purse, which I believe is still 100% a real thing in pro wrestling. Sure, it's all pre-determined, but giving the winner of a match a little extra money is still a reliable way for the booker to say "I'm putting my faith in you, & I'm even putting down extra money to prove it, so prove to me that you're worth it".

Gotta love the "sign guy". Loved him back in the day. Nowadays i think he doesn't attend shows anymore. I remember seeing him in TNA at some point, but i don't know.
