@@SwampDe It's a mix of things like construction sectors, conquer of other countries, standard of living of pops (also lowering the taxes), and good economic and social laws like Lasseiz-Faire, Free Trade, public school and health, poor laws or even better ones. There is not an empiric solution, every country and every game is different, you have to find a common strategy that can be adapted to every country. Also innovation is important because this allow you to raise productivity, gdp and standard of living. Probably they must better the late game because it decreases speed and, rarely, economic growth too much.

there's an event that if you don't start as Sardinia- Piedmont that after you unify Italy, but have not formed Italy that allows Sardinia- Piedmont to choose to annex you. If they choose to annex you, it will tag switch you, and you will lose all the laws and tech progress you made with your starting tag. It can really mess up a play through

*somewhere between 1855 and 1860, the starting ruler of oman dies, this caused it to lose its African holdings* There are 2 ways to prevent this. The extremely RNG based way is to convert it to a republic before the ruler dies. The realistic method is to conquer the entire state of yemen (basically annex the 4 yemeni tags and the part of yemen held by hedjaz), then give the state to oman. This causes oman to tag switch to yemen and stop the split. Also, oman has decent laws to start with, so it is a good economic/military subject as well.

Austria occupied Lombardy and Veneto after the napoleonic wars, it was just 20 years before the start of the game.

Actually, Lombardy was under Austrian control between 1714 and 1797 (following the Spanish war of Succession) and then again between 1815 and the unification of Italy. So quite a lot more than 20 yrs.

I do not understand why religious schools are better than no school. With that (alongside with Monarchy, Freedom of conscience/State religion) you give so much power to the Catholic Church that it is pretty difficult to push them back. Only with a civil war. And France did, by far, the heavy lifting during the war. Moreover Austria was pretty much directly or indirectly controlling the whole of Italy. Duchy of Parma, Duchy of Modena, Duchy of Toscane and Kingdom of Two-Sicilies were all controlled by Austrian backed monarchs. France opened the road for Sardinia Piedmont to take Italy.

France even fought Garibaldi when he tried to conquer rome. It was Piedmontese diplomacy which make the miracolous unification, thanks to the genial Camillo Benso

@@Skyline68230 Also, a little history lesson for you my friend: during the first unification war, Sardinia Piedmont stood alone agaist Austria, only backed by some troops from other italian states like Tuscany and even the pope. And Sardinia was winning. Austria even offered Sardinia to take Lombardy. Eventually Sardinia lost because the other italian armies abandoned the battlefield and because of the king poor management of the late fases of war (didn't accepted the Lombardy in the first place and didn't advanced in the first fases of the war when he was stronger)
