Ajahn Brahm examines the place of love, lust, desire and affection in Buddhism. Ajahn asks; Is love an attachment? Is love something beautiful? Is love going to get you into trouble? What actually is the place of love in Buddhism? What is spiritual about your love in a relationship? Ajahn also looks at how you can make use of your understanding of the love you feel in a marriage or relationship.

I needed this. I am getting married in 3 months. I have never worried so much in my life, never been more scared of messing up. Ajahn Brahm, you put it beautifully. I love this man. I love him for all he is and for all he’s done for me. My fears have turned into anger, control and indecisiveness. I feel joy and love again. ❤️ I will remember this for my vows.

Something else popped into my mind when Ajahn talked about the 'us' of marriage.... if we look at greater and greater circles of us it will be better all round. For example, if we think of the us of family, and us of our work mates, the us of the club we belong to, or the us of the city we live in... on to the us of the world we live in, we will be more aware of how to 'be' better in the world by being better for the world.

@Ann Williams Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu🙏🙏🙏. Beautifully said and you've got it! Hence the 'unconditional love' that Ajahn mentions; eventually it discriminates against no one!😌

Thank you so much for this Ajahn Brahm. Your talk has come to me at the most precise moment in my life. I have a very strained relationship with my parents because I am not living up to their standards. My hope is that they will take the time to view it as well and learn to let go of the pain we've been putting each other through. Metta.

I was really trustring someone that I loved until the day we talked about trust. He told me I was wrong to trust people because his father taught him not to trust anyone in this life. He said we were always going to mistrust each other. I left confused and decided to end that relationship because from that day I began to mistrust him. He thought I was stupid for trusting him. How to cope with this? How to love someone who despises you for trusting him? It was painful like hell. I´ve been trying to understand this event for months. Can someone say something please?

It wasn't your fault. Some people can't get past what they're taught at a young age. I'm sorry your ex partner had a difficult time trusting people. Romantic love is one of the most difficult things to get past in this life. I can only hope that your heart will heal, and you will find someone truly worthy of your love and trust. =)

Oooo. Always love your flowers. This week it's some proteas. Wonder if they are from South Africa or do you now grow proteas in Oz? Ps. AB always makes such great points with a great sense of humour.... "we have equity in this society" (referring to women and men getting involved outside their primary relationship). ;)

Maybe there is love in people for the other person, let it be family, friends, husband or wife, just sometimes they don't cultivate it, and love goes small and starts to die in them. And that is sad ... and painful.

Dear Ajahn: It is very sad for me to hear jokes about animals who are actually being killed and tortured at this moment for the sake of antropocentrism and speciesism. I tell you this with my love and compassion: please use your influence to sensitize people about spreading love and compassion to all beings; that includes the animals that are so often assumed to be just things for our consumption. I'm shure you wouldn't make jokes about a human victim of holocaust or slave or anything this horrific, please don´t trivialize other species suffering. Thank you for the speech, besides of that, it was beautiful.

T - EVS dear friend, he does mean people can pull a hu dred carts if we pull with our heart muscles. He is saying it about us and about us volunteering freely to do it, because of our wet noses of caring and compassion. Ajahn is a person talking to people, and he is quietly inviting us to not be the weeping farmer so much. The ox is the other side of the farmer. He has put his own heart into his work, instead of his worrying mind.

Hey brother, thank ou for answering. Well I wasn't talking about the ox story, but about the joke with the pig. I don't remember it exactly now and the video is too long to search. I just remember it was an actual joke relating with a pig. Metta for you.

Between husband and wife, who do you think is involved-committed? I think it's the wife who is committed - nine months bearing the child and the pain she suffered in delivering it. The husband just got involved.

Give them “amnesty” for being honest with you about their infidelity?!...🤣😝😂🤪 Who are you kidding. Give them a bullet in the head is how most of us will respond. Okay, maybe not a bullet. More likely Divorce papers. That’s what my buddy’s wife did after he told her the truth about his affairs. Why did he cheat? Why couldn’t she forgive him? Because this “Love” thing doesn’t really exist. What most of us are into is ownership. When two people make a pact to love each other, they’re actually making an agreement to own each other. I own you. You’re mine. You belong to me. No one else can own you. Sickening isn’t it. But that’s what two people are really saying to each other when they say “I love you.”
