@@tabstabs1204 clearly, you know nothing about Jim. Those races where Graham finished 2nd, they were probably won by Jim. Jim's tyres lasted longer, brakes lasted longer, he used less fuel, all while going faster. It doesn't show Jim having a bad driving style, that's simply how you've incorrectly interpreted the data. The mechanics who worked on the cars all say you can tell which one is Jim's because compared to the others it still feels new. Jackie Stewart describes him as "He was so smooth, he was so clean, he drove with such finesse. He never bullied a racing car, he sort of caressed it into doing the things he wanted it to do." He also has this; Most races with pole, win, fastest lap, and leading every lap 8 Highest percentage of possible championship points in a season 100% in 1963 and 1965 Highest percentage of laps in the lead in a season 71.47% in 1963

I've noticed over the past 30 years that the media plays up the prominence of drivers with _podium finishes,_ where in earlier generations of motorsports, finishing second or third was as prominent as for those drivers that finished fifth or tenth. Those drivers not winning were pretty much lumped into the _also-ran_ category, and were not heralded for their runner-up places.

@@frozello14 It's not just that though. Nico was in much less competitive machinery (prior to them being team mates).. so it's very interesting that at one stage at the end of 2015, Hamilton only had 3 more 2nd places than Nico. So Hamilton's better machinery early on in his career didn't mean that he got lots more 2nd places, during 2007-2015, yet he still had many many more 1st places compared to Nico during the 2007-2015 period.

@@manavarjuna1359 Well my comment wasn't only about 2nd places. Just in general he have been driving with McLaren or Mercedes and there may be couple seasons, when his car was not fighting for title, but at least he have wins every season so it tells his car has been competitive every year. There's not many drivers who have been given a chance to driver 15 years in car that can win races or finish podium every season constantly. It's partly about the luck though with waiting, when some of those former greats will retire so seats open in some top teams etc.. So hard to say really.

Alonso having so many 2nd places as drivers with at least double his titles shows you that he is consistent and never had a dominant car, even during 2005, 2006. While Kimi having won only 1 world title with so many second places shows you that he is inconsistent.
