Had to rewatch the Aasbo/Fields run again on slow motion. Aasbo's light turns red after he hit the wall. Fields was spinning out before the decel light.

@stephen2282 Жыл бұрын
yea I think they were coming at it from the standpoint of Aasbo overslowing in that zone to get himself out of trouble and I think Matt coming in as committed and as fast as he did made it look more egregious. ie you can see how fast the gap closed. Maybe matt was on the verge of overrotating but considering he was as close as he was when Aasbo had his moment in a part of the track that they shouldnt, somewhat took some responsibility away from matt.

I appreciate the sharing. It looks to be like there are still some kinks to work out. I watched the Aasbo replay so many times and cannot see any visual change in momentum for Aasbo and before Aasbo touches the wall you can already see Matt throwing more angle. To me and my analysis Matt was going to spin, no matter what. The overhead drone shows it best. The decel light should only be the first part of the analysis, once you see the light, the analysis then needs to be did it affect the chase driver. In my novice opinion this didn't happen in this circumstance. I feel the angle that Matt Field threw at the car was not recoverable. I saw no evidence that he actually made contact with Aasbo and the angle of his drift didn't change after Aasbo hit the wall it changed beforehand. This means the spin was independent of Aasbo's mistake and Aasbo should not have been penalised for it.

So it is important where the G-Sensor is located. What if u have a small impact and the G-Sensor intrepretet it as a "decel" but it was not a decel?
@The_Bliz Жыл бұрын
This is just one component of many that the judges are using to determine driver intent and how that affects and scores a run. If there's an impact that would be visible from the camera operators and accounted for as a whole.
@revotron69 Жыл бұрын
Surely they wont put it on the body of the car im sure they tie it to the chassis
@anthonyantoine9232 Жыл бұрын
I'm sure the sensor is mounted to the chassis and is specifically measuring the component of the acceleration vector which runs the length of the vehicle, so direct side impacts going straight across the vehicle would have no effect on the lights and an impact directly to the rear of the vehicle pushing it straight forward would appear as additional acceleration. This is just my educated guess as to how they're doing this, so don't take it as gospel but rather a good guess as to how it'd function for a small impact. For an impact with angles much more complex than the perpendicular ones mentioned above, it's extremely hard to say exactly how it'd react. It certainly could conceivably show a decel where there truly was none, though, based on my understanding of how it likely works.
@anthonyantoine9232 Жыл бұрын
@@mikehunt7857 Totally agree. It's supposedly for visible decel, but watching the controversial Field V Aasbo battle very closely from an overhead view you see absolutely no deceleration at that moment. It also really doesn't even make sense that Aasbo would decelerate as he's touching the wall but rather that he would accelerate to avoid getting deeper into the wall. If you watch frame by frame, it goes from partial green to full green in one frame when the bumper touches. It then goes from full green to full red (massive acceleration to massive deceleration) in one single frame as a gap between the bumper and wall reappears. It is bonkers to think that this is a valid, reliable result and it should not have been used in competition. There are certainly kinks to be worked out. It is indeed an exciting development, but they need to use their heads when analyzing the data it's producing and they also need to work on something to make sure that it's consistently providing reliable data.
@josephmatuszak3855 Жыл бұрын
Hell yea! It should go a long way to showing how quickly a decel is occuring as well. So drivers are very smooth with multiple inputs including brake, and don't actually decel, and sometime a wall scrub can produce much more slow down than expected.
@ZeLoShady Жыл бұрын
I like this addition but there needs to be a lot of testing done to make sure these are working as intended. Using the Aasbo/Field thing as an example, what is the threshold for wall impacts which cause a red light (visual decel as said in the video)? Are you able to show a chart that plots that threshold at all? How do the sensors read the G force's and turn that into accel/decel data. Does the orientation of the car (angle) matter at all? If someone does a really snappy & quick transition, then get back on throttle (like going from OZ2-OZ3 at LB), will that cause a weird readout from the sensors due to the changing G's in that scenario. Overall, looking forward to seeing this in the sport. It will make a big impact and is another step forward for FD. Lot's of great changes this year overall really. If LB was anything to go by, it's going to be a sick season this year. Let's just hope that the judges don't miss a spinning chase driver spin out before a decel light comes on again. Let's be real too, Aasbo's line and angle didn't change AT ALL. Aasbo's car was not affected at all by the tap. What actually happened is that Matt got scared that Aasbo was going to wipe and just lost concentration resulting in him starting to over RO, then being unable to save the car, thus hitting the wall. You replied to another commenter about arguing physics.. If there is a G force sensor positioned near the back of the car, there is a possibility that the collision caused it to read improperly. When that bumper hits, it kinda hangs onto the wall (from the high amount of friction and the force of the car pushing it into the wall) for a second before being pulled off by the rest of the car continuing to move. While that bumper hangs onto the wall, the rest of the car isn't affected much but the bumper has experienced a decel. The car will continue with the same amount of momentum/speed because most of that impact is absorbed by the bumper and the crumple zones/bash bar on the car. These bumpers are designed for the purpose of reducting the force from the wall impact on the rest of the car. That light was only on for 1/10th of a second, not very long at least. It also went straight back to full green, same state as before the crash. In my mind, this could mean there is a possible error in the data caused by unforeseen circumstances. Of course I don't know where these things are installed but that sure does seem like a possible scenario for this. :)

GT style wings are not allowed on tracks with walls because they'de regularly get ripped off and they were generally at window height making them at best a massive distraction and at worst a safety hazzard. The lights are for quick judging and for giving fans easy data to understand. Removing them defetes the purpose of the system and the threashold is confidential to keep teams from barely avoiding it. The judges have more specific data they can look at, some of which the teams asked to keep confidential and some of which they plan to make public.
