So I had a similar thought, but after some thinking my thoughts on this is. - there was enough rain on Ryan's lead (as Ryan said) - they went by the Poor Lead Line rule on Conor's lead in favor of the damage dealt to Ryan - they aren't allowing contesting rules as I understand (I'm just coming back to the sport after missing few years) - following the ruling, listening to Conor's side and the commentators. it sounded to me like the commentators may have agreed that he deserved a sight lap but didn't argue it for the sake of continuing competition. It'll be interesting to see the following competitions to see if they remember that and are more careful with ruling situations like this.... And if they don't I might fall off from watching again. Because constantly sketchy rulings is why I stopped watching the last time 😅
@sub5star6 ай бұрын
@@J0K3R_the_Nerd I think FD need to be more careful when considering if a sight lap is allowed or not. To my understanding the drivers were not allowed a sight lap when they should have been (I don't have all the details though, so I might be wrong here). I understand that they don't want to give sight laps when it's not necessary, because they slow the show down, but in this case it was quite clear to me that the track conditions were unpredictable enough to allow for a sight lap at that time. And yes, protests during the event is no longer a thing. I've heard talk about some possibility for protesting stuff after the event is finished, but I haven't looked into the details around that.

I don’t feel that it was right to rerun Connors battle. You can’t just selectively apply hindsight because the time allows for it in this once instance. If you’re not going to deeply analyse every run with a fine tooth comb and revert every call that was an error then just don’t do it because that’s inconsistent and ultimately unfair to the drivers. Just because something feels right to do in the moment doesn’t necessarily mean it is right. I feel like that was a very short sighted decision.

I know it feels that way, but here is the thing. All the judges thought he debeaded independently, but could not conclusively prove it. Once we saw the 5k footage it was clear he did. Now that footage is the right of RT to use in a post event appeal and he wins that appeal, but the event is over and we never get to see the battle as it should have been. We have the time and the ability to make it right according to the rules and we did. That's the basic sequencing of it. It's righting a wrong and allowing it to be handled on track as painful as it was.

@@redchristy As far as I can tell, Tuerck's rear doesn't drop anymore than usual at that part of the track. There were many cars that wobbled a bit through that section (my guess is from driving over the kerbs). I don't see how that can conclusively prove that Tuercks rear suspension was broken at that point. And even if it was, as far as I can tell it was Tuerck's front left suspension that prevented him from finishing the run, not the rear suspension. Another thing I disagree with you on is that Tuerck hit the wall all on his own. You can't have a close proximity chase without having some responsibility on the lead car. That opens up a whole can of bad things where the lead can get away with douchbaggery that no one wants. When the chase is expected to be inches away from the lead, and the lead drives too hard into the wall, you can't possibly expect the chase to both avoid hitting the wall and keep close proximity at the same time?

Great show but frustrating to see the rerun of Shanahan and Tuerck. You CAN NOT convince me that there was zero protest and/or pressure from the fact that Rockstar is both a title sponsor of Ryan and the Formula Drift series as a whole. This was a poor decision, and makes the judges and the series’s judgement look wishy washy, fake, and weak. If a wrong call is made, move on. It happens. In football bad flags change the outcome of games all the time. It’s a part of the sport. But once it’s called, it’s called, and drifting should be the same way.

At the end of the day that's why they created protests and that's where the sport is at. And it seams to continue to go in that direction of whoever has a bigger name notice how the percentage of wins of certain drivers is through the roof compared to others

I want to say the judging is better but man these guys make some very questionable decision. Being close is actually a detriment unless the lead driver is perfect. One mistake from lead and its the chase faul??? Wtf

Great event, great drivers, poor judgement! Come on FD you can do it better

This event was great, judging for the vast majority was great.But I'm still confused by the Connor/Tuerek rerun call; haven't we seen drivers finish runs with a debeed? And no matter what happened to cause it connor put the car in the perfect position behind Tuerek in outer 3, confuses me that they changed the decision because of the debeed. Great event tho cheers
@sub5star6 ай бұрын
The problem wasn't the debead itself. The problem was that Shanahan was allowed to change his tire after debeading, which is only allowed if the debead is the result of contact. In this case, the GoPro footage showed that the debead happened before the contact. Because of this, the rules were in fact broken when Shanahan was allowed to change his tires. Allowing Shanahan to change tires when he shouldn't have been allowed is FD's fault, not Shanahans. Within the current rules, what do you think should have happened?

Really impressed with the new format so far. Definitely some hiccups, but I see what they’re trying to do and I appreciate it. Damn!! I was really enjoying this but then the audio progressively got worse

Seemed a bit silly that Travis Reeder was on the list. Is it because he completed the entry forms? Aren't they bound to compete? In terms of the show having bye runs for people not even at the event is not ideal. I think Reeder is still in 21st so Nick Noback in 12th gets a bye into top 16 next round unless he is removed. Vaugn Gittin Jr is also an interesting one. AFAICT he's only down to 23rd. I don't really know what the solution would be. It's not quite as simple as moving everyone else up. Well, it could be but there might have to be some timeframe for it so that drivers have enough time to know who they are going up against as that is a big point being made this year. It wouldn't eliminate cases where drivers retire due to a mechanical unless you scrap the idea of knowing who you will compete against ahead of time (personally I'd go this route so as to get the maximum number of battles). I'm sure there has been some consideration to this topic but I haven't heard it.

Conner should of gone through off the first battle it shouldn't of been run again. No hate against ryan as im a fan of his he got me into watching fd want him to win a championship but that was the wrong call
@sub5star6 ай бұрын
No it wasn't. Allowing Shanahan to change his tires after debeading before the contact with Tuerck was the wrong call.
