Excellent demonstration of stability. Gives a fair idea of behaviour under pH, temperature and light.

The difficult thing is that we don't know how (and how long) companies store products in warehouses. A product may be well over 6 weeks old (and stored above 25C) before it arrives at your house.
@theinstituteofpersonalcare64015 жыл бұрын
Companies putting the product onto the market are required to conduct appropriate stability testing on their products that should also consider how products are shipped and stored. Please watch this video for more information on stability/shelf life/expiry date testing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmOyZ6qohLqfd6s If you are manufacturing product, please make sure you run suitable quality checks on raw materials when they arrive to you before using them in production. Hope this helps.

@@theinstituteofpersonalcare6401 stability testing for shelf life includes bacterial/yeast growth, shift in pH, color, rheology change etc. It is not mandatory to do stability assays for specific ingredients in a formula. So shelf life and PAO don't neccesarily say anything about degradation/stability of the active ingredient like green tea extract or retinol in a formula.

A form of ascorbyl palmitate is used in food preservation same form is used in oil base formulation. I wonder it preserves the formula or skin.
@theinstituteofpersonalcare64012 жыл бұрын
Formulating cosmetics is very different to formulating foods, and ascorbyl palmitate will act as an antioxidant for the formula, but actually acts as a food source, so is anti-preservative! You would need to conduct proper stability testing to find out, as it also depends on what else is in your formula and final pH.

As a hobby cosmetics formulator, I've been really enjoying this channel! Watching this video I was wondering do you use stainless steel equipment (bowls, whisks etc.) with ascorbic acid? Some people argue ascorbic acid would react with the stainless steel and I've notice you always use stainless steel equipment, so I was wondering if that was true when you formulate with ascorbic acid as well. Thanks!

We use 316 grade stainless steel in the lab as it is most durable

May I ask why you choose MAP over Ethyl Ascorbic Acid for water based solutions? Both seem to have held up equally well in your tests.

They both performed well, its really up to personal preference. I do find the MAP and SAP to be very readily available from suppliers - but they were both really stable. Hope this helps happy formulating!

Thank you belinda.i have a question,on the skin is there any stability study of vit c? I think about that,because with the skin temperature,the air,the light,etc,it would degrade very fast. How many hours can be stable on the skin in the day and night? What happen in the skin if it is degraded?
@theinstituteofpersonalcare64013 жыл бұрын
It's fine once on the skin especially in an amphiphilic base with osmolytes so it gets rapid outer epidermal penetration. All the efficacy data showing its effectiveness on the skin is testament to this. Its more about stabilising it in the formula that is important - if it is not present in the formula, it can’t do anything! Once on the skin when it penetrates the outer epidermis, it will be effective. Happy formulating!
