I'm making my own cosmetics for years, it's so much fun :) I always have fresh bottle of vitamin C in my fridge. My favourite and proven formula is 15% vitamin C serum with ascorbic acid, ferulic acid, vitamin E and some humectants. I cannot imagine my routine without vitamin C serum and was quite suprised when I saw Dr Dray's video about vitamin C in cosmetics. She claimed that it doesn't have any effects on skin and there are no scientific research to prove it's effectiveness in treating skin ageing, hyperpigmentation etc.

Lauri, so how do you make your Vitamin C? Could you share with us please?
@lauriloss4537
@lauriloss4537 4 жыл бұрын
@@tamacc6820 It's very easy:) I dissolve ascorbic acid in some low-pH hydrolate (now I use orange blossom hydrolate, it has pH about 3.5) mixed with propanediol and ethanol - it makes dissolving easier. In other beaker I dissolve ferulic acid in ethanol (I don't have ferulic acid solution, only pure ferulic acid powder). I add ferulic acid dissolved in ethanol to the beaker with ascorbic acid and mix them. Then I add hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and preservative. I don't add any emulsifier which will mix vitamin E with the rest, so before use I have to shake the bottle. If you want you can modify the formulation by adding some more hydrating ingredients - panthenol, sorbitol, etc. If you want exact recipe with grams I can share :) If you have access to online shops selling raw cosmetics ingredients, DIY vitamin C serum is very easy and budget-friendly option. And it's so much fun :)

Hi, Hope you are doing well, i have 2 questions, i would greatly appreciate if you can answe them. What can I use to make this vitamin c serum last longer, around 6-12 months like store bought ones? Vitamin E? And if so how much drops do I add of it. Secondly would you be able to tell me how much ascorbic acid, water and baking soda I need a 30ml bottle or could you tell me how can I work it out. Can i use aloe vera gel instead of Baking soda? Thank you so much, really appreciate it❤️❤️

I found that the littlextera riceberry vitamin c face serum gives my skin more glowing and evens out my pale skin tone. It also diminished my fine lines. Now I use it consistently in my skincare routine. One more thing I noticed is that it helps wounds like scratches or marks from blemishes heal faster. In the AM, before going to the office, I use rice berry sunscreen and moisturizer on top of the serum. Before this, I used minimalsts serum, but it did not give me any good results. Now I'm super happy with my current skin care routine, and I intend to stick with it for a long time.

@@its_rayray9398 Definitely TEA as Ph adjuster. I've tried the same recipe months ago and unfortunately my sensitive skin can't tolerate how strong it was. I remember the Ph level was at perfect 3. I guess water penetrate way too far and fast on my skin and as a result my sensitive skin showing signs of irritations. I've tried mix LAA with already available water based serum and it didn't completely dissolved. I thought LAA dissolved perfectly on my palms but then applied there was very fine powder sitting on top of my skin. DIY vitamin C/LAA serum might be fun for non-sensitive skin, I could only imagine lol.

Here's the formula (please correct me if I'm wrong) I like her videos, but I had to watch this a couple of times because formula examples were not well explained. The only example for calculating the ratios went by very quickly. Here ya go - 20 ml of 10% L-ascorbic acid serum: 20 ml distilled water (RO is about the same) 2 grams ascorbic acid (approx 1/3 tsp) Mix until fully dissolved Pinch(s) of baking soda to reach 3-4 pH Imperial measurements 1 oz of 10% LAA serum: 1 oz distilled or RO water 3 grams ascorbic acid (approx 1/2 tsp) Mix until fully dissolved Pinch(s) baking soda to reach 3-4 pH Multiply as needed. Use within a week. Ascorbic acid quickly loses strength. For 5% ascorbic acid serum reduce LAA amount by 50%, for 15% increase by 50%. Water amount remains the same. Will need to also adjust baking soda. Wrap bottle to protect from light. I added the note that RO (reverse osmosis) is about the same as distilled since and lot of ppl have RO systems. RO removes all contaminants and minerals almost like distilled does (when it's working properly, that is, lol!) She also says do not use tap water because mineral ions in the water can speed how quickly ascorbic acid decomposes. (Spring and well water contains minerals too.) 👍 ❤️

It's safe if you do it safely. You have to know how to sterilize everything correctly, what pattern to do with it, what needle length to use, what intervals to do it in, when NOT to do it (e.g. when you have the skin infected or damaged and so on you need to postpone the treatment), when you need to switch out the tool for a new one, etc. The point of dermarollers is to create very specific controlled damage that the skin can heal well. It helps break up scar tissue and make it consist of more healthy tissue and less scar tissue. It can also help reduce 'genetic' dark undereye circles in some cases, but it is extremely important you don't randomly experiment but actually know exactly what you are doing so you can do it in a safe manner.

Idk if you'll see this comment in such and old video. But I actually had an idea pretty similar to yours! Even with the tinfoil. The only difference is that I didn't make it with water but rather with my everyday hydrating gel, and used LOTS of ascorbic acid. Could this be detrimental? I haven't felt too much irritation, just literally a second of light stinging and then it's all gone. I've seen good results, my skin is very soft and glowing, but I'm also thinking it's making me break out just a little bit. Do you have any suggestions on my approach on this serum? These are the ingredients of my hydrating gel: Ingredients overview Aqua, Urea, Propylene 20, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Sodium Lactate, Lactic Acid, Methylparaben, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Methylisothiazolinone, Disodium EDTA I'll be very thankful if you see this ❤

Hi Michelle, I did this serum today and idk if thats true but I feel like my skin is glowing and brightened instantly. Will definitely make this weekly. Thanks for that. But I do have a problem. The serum feels tacky after dried down. Even after I applied my moisturizer, it still feels stick to the touch and my face kinda “sticked” to my pillow. Is that normal? Do you have a solution for that? And why does it happen I wonder. Thanks 😊

Thank you so much, really appreciate it❤️❤️
@percyjacksaurus
@percyjacksaurus Жыл бұрын
@@Selinnaguz hi I’m not a chemist but a medical doctor, I’ll try to answer your questions as much as I can. 1. You cant make vitamin c serum last longer by yourself. Only one brand, skinceuticals, have made that formula and also patented it so no other brands make that exact serum. Also store bought serums don’t last that long. You just don’t know they dont. They also degrade in time. I don’t know the exact time but it’s probably the same as told here, maybe 2 to 3 weeks. So I don’t buy it from a store. I make it. I suggest you to do the same. Don’t waste your money on store brands. They dont do anything. 2. I don’t use baking soda or any buffer. I just use water and ascorbic acid powder. You will need 6 grams of ascorbic acid powder for 30 mls of water to make %20 concentration of vitamin c serum.

Yeah my main concern is that you don't know the pH. You also won't know how long it'll keep after you add the LAA, and you don't know how uniformally it mixes into an emulsion like a moisturiser. If you're only adding it to each dollop of product right before you apply it, you probably aren't measuring it out precisely enough to be safe (I've heard a lot of people burning their skin this way...).
